7 - Good: 7s are very fun that has solid appeal. It has obvious issues that stick out, but can still be enjoyable by anyone.

ScrewAttack's News Director Sean Hinz worked in logistics for over four years before decided it was time to switch industries. After a couple years spent getting an MBA and freelancing, he finally found a home at ScrewAttack.com. As far as games go, Sean likes to play anything he can get his hands on, but especially enjoys third-person action RPGs. Is that really a genre? |

i love this game :D,though the only thing that annoyed me was the blood and gore was toned down from madworld

I had a great time with this game. If I will have a chance, I will surely play with it again. - Texas Lending

Talking head moments always looks funny to me.

Tack on what I consider a negative aspect of everything XBox is that it's a PAID SUBSCRIPTION TO PLAY ONLINE!!!
Bonidex
No local MP? That means this game may be almost useless in a few months! If the game doesn't work out well, it will be a SP only. Well, in a few years it will be anyway.
dragoon-killa
yeah the lack of local multiplayer is certainly damaging to an otherwise excellent game...
MagnumMagnus
did not hear the highest praises for this title, and frankly I'm rather indifferent towards Platinum Games in general.
joeshadowman
Online only? Well I think I just lost all interest for this game.
PhantomExdeath
Great review Sean, shame about no local multiplayer, you'd basically have to have a LAN party to play locally with friends...
Tricky Ricky
The only problem I have with this game is the music. In my opinion, the visuals and the character designs scream heavy metal, not hip hop and smooth jazz. Aside from that, I had a great experience with this game.
markpierceLFC
Well, have you played Mad World? ALL the music in that is Rap and Hip Hop,I think it goes well with both games.
WestCoastGamer92
Well...Howard and Kreese back?
darkhyrulelord
There is no local multiplayer? That is such a massive shame since this game has lots going towards it---including the Black Baron (one of my favorite characters). If they fix the local multiplayer thing, then I might check it out.

There cant be local MP since the mass amount of chaos and background interactions put a huge strain on the game. Quite a double edge sword but why not pick it up for the experience, its definitely worth it for 30$.

Poor advertising - Lack of Demo : No wonder the online community is small.
Now after being pushed back by 6 months, not porting the JAP demo, not giving Platinum Game an excuse for both of these action - No wonder Sega lost their chance at publishing Bayonetta 2, they blew it again and as a Developper, smart move is to get away from shitty publishers like that.
As for the no local coop - Doubt PS3 could handle all the ongoing action via split screen, the environment has so much going for it that the overall graphics had to be toned down for the chaotic aspects to remain intact. Music wise, always was a fan of how they didnt go with a generic soundtrack and whats even better is HOW WELL each track fits with the MISSION or BOSS. No joke Sean, try to listen to the lyrics and beats and see how they fit with the on-going situation. Its fucking mental at how well planned that was and i still wonder how the F they managed to pull it off.
Yes the talking heads are generic and well, they coulda had Still frames or used the MGSPeace Walker style of cutscene to fill in those blanks.....that'dd be an interesting experiment : ) But in the end, CG takes time, i can kinda see why they didnt put in-game graphic of standing characters or doubled up their production time to add more CG, guess we can suggest alternate options for the next project.
Oh and dont forget to finish the game with both sides - including the bonus. And yes - BOOOOOOO for Gamestop Pre-Order only Bayonetta as the Jap version had her included with new copies- If Sega has better marketting, there would be more pre-orders and a stronger online community but i guess they'll add her as DLC and i wouldnt mind paying for it, gotta give platinum games more funds for their next projects as they constantly improve - unlike their old publisher.
See you all in the ring and keep on with the constructive critics - Only way things improve !

No local multi-player = not worth my time.
ikey1555
It was held back 2 years ,.,. I still have no idea why but at 30 bucks new this is a Solid buy no matter how you look at it. Also I f''''ing love this game

I'll be honest... I kind of forgot this game existed...

After watching the review I realized that this isn't my type of game but I do prefer a generic hip-hop sound track over rock so It's time to give the ost a look.
Janos
Really really fair review Sean! Shame they don't have local multi player really... that just boggles my mind.
I will still give the game ago, since I love games like these. For 30 bucks, this is a damn impressive game.

I remember before this game came out, I was constantly going around the house going "hey, you want to play Anarchy Reigns with me when it comes out?", when I started playing the game to find out it had no local multiplayer, I was heart broken, This game is perfect for local MP! Its the one thing that really ruins the experience for me.
powerprotoman
18 there are 18 character 1 is bayo who is dlc and one is unlocked by beating both versions of the red side of the story which version you get is dependant on what side you started with
dreamkaster64
damn Sean, that was a really good review,
VenomPool64
First of all, thank you SO FREAKING MUCH for reviewing this game. It's pretty good and deserves a look at. As for the review, for the most part I agree. They could've added a few more interesting stages and take out a few that aren't all that great (I'm looking at you Hong Long Downtown). The talking head moments didn't bother me much plus you can skip em. I semi agree with the music, some really stand out to me but that's subjective. The no local is a huge loss though and battling bots can get boring fast.
Also, I hate, hate, HATE, ATEs during online play. If ONE person doesn't turn em off, you have to sit there until it's done and that varies depending on the hazard. Carpet Bombing only takes a few seconds but Chtulu, Kraken, and environment shifts take way too long and can't be avoided unless you turn them off before the match starts. Also, some game modes aren't worth the time imho but I guess it's better to have a few bad eggs than have the whole thing rotten. Still, I hope it sells well and Platinum will continue supporting it.

Really good review.I think 7 or 7,5 is rigth on the spot. For only 30 bucks,i think it is worth it to buy the game,i eman it is not going to cost much.
Shoggoth8852
Alright, I had a little squirt when I heard "bot matches" but how is it possible to include bot matches without also adding local multiplayer?! It's like taking a step forward on a golden road only to jump to the side into a mud puddle...
zomboy
I've been sort of interested in this game for awhile now. But it all hinder on one thing, local multiplayer. Some of the most fun I've had the past year is introducing my girlfriend to brawlers and fighters. Without the local multiplayer, there's really no point for us.
OblivionIchigo
A seven fine but you seem to attack this game a bit too much for not having local MP. Which I can understand the reason why it doesn't. Combat style just would not work out very well with the screen being cut into pieces just way too much going on it be chaos.
Anth
well done sean
