Do the new gameplay additions to Black Ops II make it the best Call of Duty ever of a big disappointment?

7 - Good: 7s are very fun that has solid appeal. It has obvious issues that stick out, but can still be enjoyable by anyone.

"Stuttering" Craig Skistimas - Owner/Dude Who Makes Things Go

The ScrewAttack Mastermind, "Stuttering" Craig Skistimas is heavily involved in everything that goes on at ScrewAttack on a day-to-day basis.  He's been here from the beginning and pretty much bleeds this place.  What's with the backwards hat?  We don't really know.  He just never seems to take it off.

I´ll probably buy in it a few months or so when It´s a bit cheaper... I feel it would be worth paying for but when at a discount or something... Oh wait, Whats that?, You get to play with just a knife and a bunch of perks? And there´s invisibility? That is so cool!

Cheaper? when you realized to buy it there will be a MW4 on the next corner....

Yeah, lol. I usually don't buy Cod-games but i liked Black ops 1 so...

Yeah well in that case sounds more reasonable!

You just can't condemn Black Ops 2 in comparison to the other sequels especially to MW3 last year which had absolutely nothing new, just a few tweaks. This title brings so many innovations to the franchise especially in the long deserved single player.

maaaaah I'm still thinking to buy it... I prefer a million times Ghost recon future soldier than this

Holy hell did that game ruin the series. Also dat connection errors all year.

November 22, 2012 - 7:24pm

I am not that involved into the cod series, it's not a diehard game for me. Eitherway, I bet this looks promising, but nah... They only sell for the name... Future Soldier kicked ass in some ways that completely forgot about the other shooter, excepting halo and gow3

I'll probably just rent this game and play through the campaign once or twice depending on how long it is. At least this time they tried some new things. Also I'm a sucker for future settings.

It's been a few years since I picked up a Call of Duty game. I've played through the campaign modes at friends house's but I was mostly unimpressed. But I picked this game up and I have to say it's a lot of fun. The future setting just does it for me. They also changed up the formula a bit and it feels a lot more refreshing than past entries.

Well this is a surprise, considering how big a fan Craig was of Black Ops 1...

November 13, 2012 - 6:35pm

This is a rental for me, I was so disappointed in BO1 that I don't want to spend a lot of money on these games. The problem is that I really wanted to like Black Ops but it was just the same old thing to me. I would get bored in the middle of a firefight and eventually got to a point in the game when I would just run past everyone I could just to finish the game faster and be done with it. I've long since given up on the multiplayer since it's all the same crap: ugly people on the mic, people who spend way too much time on the game, and lots of BS due to perks or whatever else. Zombies? Meh. Of all the COD games with a zombie mode I've only ever been on one or two teams that actually tried to work together to advance.

If BO2 really does mix it up, that's great. I'm actually kind of interested in this now, but only kind of. If my cousin that I'm going to see over Thanksgiving has it then I'll play his copy. If not then I'll get it on Redbox. But until then, I'm not losing any sleep over this.

I found the strike force missions quite fun. Yes the first one can be a pain but the second one is very fun as you are the attacker.

DarkPenguin

November 13, 2012 - 7:23pm

I've only played the first Strike Force mission so far and I was getting upset because my soldiers kept dying and I didn't realize I was getting re-enforcement's. Hah. I think the the mission would work better if you didn't have to hold down the directional buttons and you could quickly cycle through soldiers. I felt like by the time I selected the Soldier/Machine I wanted to control it was pretty much too late.

Sens Enforcer

November 13, 2012 - 12:51pm

The only problem I have with multiple endings and my decisions affecting whether my teammates live or die in a Call of Duty game is that in these games, you have 0 attachment to them. You dont get any background on them and have no connection with them. In Mass Effect, when one of your teammates dies in the 3rd game who you've known since the first, it hits you hard. With this, its more just "who cares?" Its a nice addition, but doesn't have the same impact that other games have.

Is the campaign still really short? I'm tempted to get this because I hear they've actually put an effort into making the series feel different.

Berserker_81

November 13, 2012 - 12:38pm

Even if it is still really short (and i think it is), maybe it's more worth your while now to see the different ending and the splitting story paths?

Envy_Dub

November 13, 2012 - 11:27am

Pfft! If I wanted zombie mode, I'd play Left 4 Dead.

alondite345

November 13, 2012 - 5:17pm

Same.

Berserker_81

November 13, 2012 - 12:39pm

If i wanted a FPS with vehicles, I'd play Battlefield.

Crichton

November 13, 2012 - 11:29am

Completely different. Left 4 Dead is fast zombies with a focus on teamwork and making it to the end. Cod zombies is survival against slow, but ever increasing numbers and health. Focusing on ammo conservation.

November 13, 2012 - 11:24am

A classic example of why user scores should not be trusted. A user score is really easy to enter, requires no explanation or justification, and people always give it 1s or 10s because they want to move the average closer to their own score when they really would give it a 6 or 8 for example. That and we're talking about a polarizing franchise like CoD and its barely been out for 11 hours, so how can you have seriously playde enough to give it a 5.8...

Sol-Raith

November 13, 2012 - 4:45pm

lol it was 3.8 when I first saw the review last night, about 2 hours after the games release.

Albino Rhino

November 13, 2012 - 2:45pm

Well said. I got the game last night and I really like it but I'm not even willing to score it yet because I only played MP (which feels great this year, better than MW3 by a longshot) but I haven't played around in single player yet (let alone got all 6 endings) or zombies yet! People are so quick to bust out a number and then move on to the next thing, it'd be great if once in awhile there was some thought put into it.

I miss the AI from the original F.E.A.R. Nothing was that fun since then.

Berserker_81

November 13, 2012 - 12:41pm

Personally, I wish a game could freak me out as much as Condemned (the original) did. It was simply unnerving and addicting at the same time. Kept you playing despite you knew you were gonna get spooked. Good stuff. ;)

November 13, 2012 - 3:59pm

I had that experience with Amnesia actually. Finally there was something different and original, I loved the gameplay. Deadly tension and I was always so curious - that paired with the horror... great!

darkhyrulelord

November 13, 2012 - 10:47am

I do like the multiple endings thing going on for the campaign. Sounds a lot like Star Fox 64. That new level style though does sound...not fun though. The multiplayer doesn't look like it has changed much so it looks like mindless fun. It looks like they have made Zombies better, so that appears to be pretty cool. At this point, I would probably give it a 7.5--meaning that it's a game that I'd like to have, but I can wait for it. Also, I did prefer the Black Ops games than the MW games.

Crichton

November 13, 2012 - 10:44am

One of the best games of all time. No fucking joke. Variety, alternate paths and story, Linear high action setpieces, non linear playgrounds, tons of vehicles, story changing paths done in a way i have never seen, immersive as fuck'

Without the Coop or the multiplayer, its already one of the best games of all time. and it has the amazing coop on top of that. And the same but more customizable multiplayer.

And people. Dont rate games you havent played. We get it, its cool to hate cod. Dont break the ratings system. Especially, do not let this game suffer for infinity wards abominations. Buy it.

November 13, 2012 - 10:38am

I didn't really get into CoD until I played black ops. I picked up MW3, but I just couldn't get into it like I was into black ops. I am having blast with black ops 2 though. I guess I'm just a treyarch Nazi. I think you people need to get over your hipster complex and see a game for what it is. This is actually a good game. Don't let it's popularity and bro stereotypical fan base turn you off to it.

November 13, 2012 - 10:06am

Not to sound pushy or anything but are you guys going to review Halo 4.

Jasper Kazai

November 13, 2012 - 9:50am

It's cool and nice to see a SA review that's "on-time." I know you guys can't always do it for various reasons, but it'd be cool to be able to see more of that. It's funny how much you hated Strikeforce though, because Jim Sterling loved it in his review and wished there was more of it. Weird. Kind of surprised you actually like BlOps I better, but ok. I doubt I'm going to get this game anyways...

I really have no desire to buy this or any other COD game. I dont hate the franchise just really bored with it.

Same goes here, though i'm more exhausted by the constant arguments between COD fans and... everyone else.

Call of Duty is like the Mcdonalds of video games. Just because it's tasty, doesn't mean it's good for you. Junkfood games. Good for a quick craving, but will never fully satisfy you like a classic will.

But hey, if that's all you want. Here it is.

as guy who has been playing since 1239 in the morning till right now trust me when I say its a great game. Feels total different from MW3 and even BO1 but jsut enough for you to pop in and play. ScoreStreaks work well, the high end score streaks are hard to earn but believe me when you earn one you EARNED IT. Overall the story is one so the most deepest in COD series the choice options within the game play may seem simple but be CAREFUL it'll hugely effect your story line and ending. Zombies is zombie enough said. Its still early so finding the storyline with in Zombies is going to take a few days on weeks before someone cracks the code. Playing online is it shining star. Guns feel great balance and the different gun types all have their own plus and minuses. Maps are fast and deadly if your not careful. Most maps have a great place for sniping and places for great CQB but watch the doors to location its a campers paradise. Thou yes you find one or two weapons they need to be Nerf -ed and it'll take a few games to get used to this style of game play its great once you get used to it. Over all graphics look great for what could be the last COD on this generation of consoles thou yes Craig hit it on the head the words and the lips sometimes just don't line up. Sound is great bullets sound powerful and guns have a deep dark sound when firing away. You may have to adjust you lighting once or twice while playing the raining jungle makes things hard to see and online every team is wearing black. My over score is a 9/10. Another great entire to the COD series its a must play for any hardcore gamer. Need more information before you buy see Screwattack play it live on "Out of the Box" this Wednesday at 11am central. This TTUdrummer signing out.

You got it right. I have never seen story 'choices' done like this in any game. Most are 'You fucked up during gameplay? Now you gotta deal with it'

To anyone whos gonna play it. BE CAREFUL.

Can't post a personal review because I haven't played it...but I don't really want to drop $60 so I'll probably not get it...the only thing I really wanted to play was Zombie mode...soo....yeah
