Crude, violent and profane... and I enjoyed every moment of it.

First off, holy spambots batman! Second, I can definitely see what you are saying jared. One of my fears fothis game was that while it may look fun and exciting there wasn't going to be enough in the game to make it long lasting unlike no more heroes. Since it is suda 51 I will give it a try for sure. Nice review. Calling it like it is.

melonofwater

July 8, 2012 - 7:22am

How can you call this game degrading and insulting but don't say anything about other violent games like GTA? So just because its a girl and not a guy its insulting? Who are you to say what is degrading for women? If it were a male protagonist you wouldn't say that. Stop being hypocrites you sound like losers who can't get gf's.

Violence itself isn't degariding or insulting. They do take it a little over the top with the harrasment of the main character, She even tryes to pull her skirt down when you angle the camera low enough. This isn't how you make a sexy game, Bayonetta got it right, end of story.

So, I guess this means that it doesn't stack up to No More Heroes?

Anthropomo

July 3, 2012 - 5:31pm

I was expecting a 5 point score range. usually these scores are 2 points less than other sites, and I can usually gauge the score by how the review is spoken too.

this crap costs 60 bucks?? F-THAT!!

MetalSmasher86

September 14, 2012 - 5:15am

Yeah, I might get it if it were 15-20 bucks, but there just isn't enough gameplay to make it worth 60.

July 2, 2012 - 8:56pm

Jokes and Minigames kill the game and the stiff control i'll just play No More Hero again and call it a weekend

Solid Snake613

July 2, 2012 - 8:06pm

This games combat looks way too stiff compared to other games like Devil May Cry.

Kimera

July 2, 2012 - 2:06pm

I am not impressed with the game simply because it features zombies...apparently the "flavor of gaming" for this year. And the fact that the main character is a cheerleader, as well as being portrayed as the stereotype of such individuals. I might rent it, just to give it a try but I seriously doubt I would ever commit to purchasing it.

RiiLaKuma

July 2, 2012 - 12:06pm

I'll probably get this game when it's cheaper.

Should be worth playing, just to hear Bubbles and Twilight Sparkles shouting obscenity

deadpan

July 2, 2012 - 9:15pm

true, as I've said elsewhere though gamefly is the only rental outlet that carries it and the wait there could be months and months as the availability has been low since it came out.

I was about to say the same thing.

Kaibaman41

July 1, 2012 - 5:32pm

From some gameplay videos I have seen I will agree with Jared on this but could have clarified how the Platinum Medals unlock different Costumes for the main character to wear. For example 25 Platinum Medals unlocks the Shiro Outfit, the Shiro outfit is inspired by an Anime character of the same name from Deadman Wonderland(currently running on Toonami) in a cruel twist of fate Shiro is both a Protagonist and an Antagonist at the same exact time but I won't say how.

Ivan2294

July 1, 2012 - 4:25pm

Definitely doesn't seem to be my type of game. Watershocker kept praising it though, so maybe I'll give it a rent.

Teaming up with WB Interactive has not been good on Suda 51. I feel like this and Shadows of the Damned were bogged down by metrics and executive meddling. Great review as always Jared. I appreciate that your reviews consistently focus on the game and don't go of on tangents

In contrast to Lollipop Chainsaw, Jared's review suffers from it's usual stigma. Lots of substance, little style. Might as well type it all out and have a computer voice generator read it. The upside is he is usually spot on with his analysis IF you can stay awake the whole time.

I have a strange feeling that if this game was a bit more like DMC in terms of action, it would of done better.

Juggernaut

July 1, 2012 - 8:42am

Oh Jared... This game is mindless fun. The retro gaming stage is my favorite with the throw back to elevator madness warming the caucles of my heart. If you are a true fan of Suda51 this is one for your shelf.

I got this game because I'm a Suda51 fan, and even though it's not No more Heroes good, I still really enjoyed this game and I recommend it to Suda51 fans.

I never thought this game was going to be anything more.

VenomPool64

June 30, 2012 - 10:49pm

Eh, I can agree with this. I thought the humor was pretty funny though and I never thought it crossed the line into being actually offensive (then again. that's subjective). The mini games are...meh. The idea that Juliet cheers Nick on while he controls a zombie is good, but they could've done a lot more with it (looks at Sir Dan from Medievil). It is indeed a lot of flash and not much else and I was really annoyed that there wasn't a block feature. It makes sense because she's an agile cheerleader but tossing a crap ton of zombies at you too, not so much. The fan service...meh. I don't think it affects people or is all that "in your face" as much as others say. After a while you straight up ignore it, like any game that has it.

To put it simply: It's a good game, not for everyone but still good. I still have it, me and my sister love the heck outta it. But they introduced ideas and never really do more with them. They also don't push anything to their limits (script, gameplay, pretty much everything) and that's kind of disappointing since it came from Suda 51.

Dark_Link_Killer

June 30, 2012 - 8:47pm
I bet the one of the only reasons people bought this was to see if there was a nude costume for Juliet. Only a hand full of people bought it for the story/gameplay and the other bought it for the love of zombie games

darkhyrulelord

June 30, 2012 - 7:46pm

This looks like a game with a few interesting ideas, but not enough oomph put into them...sorttospeak.

zomboy

June 30, 2012 - 7:11pm

I think one of the biggest issues with the jokes and dialogue is that the script was written ahead of time by the studio. Then they brought in filmmaker James Gunn to add dialogue to the story and the jokes that are already created. I haven't played a lot of the game myself. But my girlfriend has played about half. The dialogue is very fitting to James Gunn's work if you enjoy Slither and Super or his time working for Troma. Actually, I think that's the best comparison. The game is like playing a Troma film. Tromeo and Juliet, the Toxic Avenger series, the Nuke 'Em High series. This videogame would fit right in as a Troma film. Which is also where James Gunn got his start.

The conclusion of this review is what I thought when I saw the trailer. To the people who say that I play Dead or alive only to see chicks you are wrong : those who play Lollipop chainsaw do that. Just wait september for DOA 5 for great gameplay and chicks

They Call Me The Fizz

June 30, 2012 - 5:49pm

Yeah, this game looks like it's more for the $20 range... but it also looks like one that needs to be played...

AngelCam7

June 30, 2012 - 5:35pm

Well, I will admit, Lollipop Chainsawwon't be winning any Game of the Year awards anytime soon, the game does have its good moments. Sometimes you just need a game to play while taking a break on playing the big titles and I say that Lollipop Chainsaw is that game.

I really want to rent this but I dont think Red box will be carrying this game anytime soon.

JxL

He doesn't do jokes in his reviews. For some reason he takes on the personality of the host of Antiques Roadshow when review time rolls around.

BloodPhoenixXIII

June 30, 2012 - 2:47pm

I honestly can't say anything against what Jared brought up because honestly it's true. In my opinion though it does offer tons of fun as the other costumes like HOTD and DW, and some of the minigames are fun. Surprisingly my Girlfriend loves this game more than me and we have fun trying to get all trophies together. I think what really makes or breaks this game is your sense of humour as we laughed our asses off at most of the jokes.

Good review, but this is one of those times when you just don't enjoy something as much as I do.

Tpayne80

June 30, 2012 - 2:48pm

The gameplay is pretty easy once you get one of the upgrades. Think DSP or Anger joe (i can't remember who said it lulz thats bad) said it best some of Suda's game just aren't for some people and some are. 8/10 for me. Also a bit late we this review :P

Rurounizanza

June 30, 2012 - 2:37pm

One of the biggest things that attract me are the different anime outfits, like Highschool of the Dead, for example.

Jasper Kazai

June 30, 2012 - 2:49pm

Yep, that would be the only reason I would want to play this game. Also, I'd love to be able to import the Japanese version just altogether. Both versions have great voice actors for Juliet (they're different for PS3 and 360).
