I really can`t see why this game receives high praise. The story is horrible. The characterization is horrendous. It`s so life-less. It seems as long as you have a gun in your hand, the americans are pleased. And why reduce what made Lara so popular in the first place? Does it make the game more mature? Nope, but nice try though. Ps: Yes, I played 10 hours of the game and leaving it for Monster Hunter Tri which is more mature and challenging.

If only multiplayer hadn't been added, and instead more secret tombs were added. i'm actually bummed multiplayer is so bad since it is made by the same people that made the amazing Deus Ex: Human Revolution. This game is Amazing, just wish there was more to do, and i don't mean that as a negative, i mean that it was so awesome i didn't want it to end. Definitely excited to see where Crystal Dynamics go with the next Tomb Raider

Just 100%'d this on the 360, the challenges were not too difficult and certainly made a nice six or so extra hours, but the multiplayer is absolute trash, as Nick pointed out, laggy, so laggy.

But now that I've completed it, I'm trading it in for Bioshock Infinite.

It's good to see a GOOD reboot around. I'm tired of seeing stupid "in name only" reboots.

The black guy yelling at you was the best part of the review. If I didn't spend my money on the pre-order of "The last of us" I would have bought this game for sure

Just beat this game, and everything he says is true. This game is amazing! It's literally a mix of Uncharted 2 and Far Cry 3, so awesome! In fact, I'd say it's better than all 3 Uncharted games combined.

cool Square, we got a new Hitman, a new Tomb Raider, now can we get a new Soul Reaver?

Good Review! Sadly the only thing killing this game is the multiplayer. I think this is the only reason everyone is rating this game a nine instead of a ten. Regardless this is a great game and have been glued to it.

If there's one thing about Lara Croft that's true, its that she sure can take a beating.

Wow, a GOOD Tomb Raider game? Who would have thunk it :P. Nice review. I may add this to my gamefly Q.

Awesome review Nick! That brodude was really funny, he pretty much sums up the entire Xbox Live Community. I also think the game is amazing, it's much better than I expected. I'm really looking forward to a sequel, especially if they make the multiplayer even more fun. But of course, you should buy this game because of its amazing campaign.

I give it 8.5/10 and say you should go buy it. The only thing that really sucks in my opnion about the game is the writing. It's soooooo cliché and poor but hey, I don't play video games for the story so whatever.

I enjoyed this game! Beat it two days after I got it at 89%! Couldn't help myself I needed to know how it ended! I need to go back to finish it! Other than that while I did/do enjoy multiplayer it is not my thing but it was fun

I really hope there's a Wii U port...That being said though, for someone who will be playing single player exclusively, 360 or PS3? I'm leaning towards PS3 but still curious

Tomb Raider was definitely a series that needed a reboot with the lack of quality games over the years. I got into this game a lot more than I expected I would. I remember in the "Out of the Box" how you were talking about how you were at the edge of your seat while playing it the first time and that was pretty much me when I was playing as well. Any game that can get me in a state such as that really deserves props. If, or more likely when they make a sequel I would like a bit more exploration with a bigger world to explore over combat, but that's just me.

Nice review Nick! I bought it right after watching this. One question: Are there enemies that are not human or animals? I mean something fictional like zombies for example. Didn't see anything like that in the whole footage I've seen from Tomb Raider. The older games had these enemy types so I would miss them if they didn't exist.

Nick

March 8, 2013 - 7:38pm

I don't want to say either way because I think it would spoil some of the game. Either way, it's worth playing through, even if the ending feels rushed. The journey makes it worth it.

MarcManGames

March 9, 2013 - 6:28am

Thanks for the answer. It's a great game, I'm sure. Things like creatures I'd miss from the older games would be just a minor complaint. Certainly something like that won't ruin an otherwise awesome experience.

Hmmmm, feels a bit like Arkham you say ... I might have to check this one out :)

Played it and its crap just like every tombraider since Angel of Darkness.

It doesn't help that I think reboots are pointless, they can suck as much as they like as long as they don't get in my way.

If I made a franchise that got "Wanked to death" I would have ended the franchise pernamently some way or another. Perhaps keeping all rights of that franchise and take it with me even I'm dead.

Oh yeah and the gameplay has been dumbed down to a shitty cover based shooter for dumb people to play it.

F*ck It!

I really wish people would see that graphics do not make a game and see that the gameplay feels nothing like any tombraider game and its just ripping off other modern popular games.

March 8, 2013 - 10:00pm

Because whene a reviews talks about how good the game is for 5 mins and talks about how good the presentation is, yes its all about the graphics.

plus a game play you dont like but other people, do dont make them dumb but makes you look like a dumb arse

Then why is the survival activities only used for leveling up only instaid of just your only mandatory way of beating the game or you die.

Take Metal Gear Solid 3 for example. That game is 1 million times better than this rebooted rubbish excuse of a game.

The shooting gameplay has that stupid auto health recovery bollocks, also uncharted's gunplay as never good either.

Also the game is way to focused more on story than gameplay.

I buy a game to freaking play it, if I wanted to watch hours of cutscenes I will watch a movie.

This is why platformers, arcade, fighting and indie games are better than mainstream games these days, they focus more on gameplay.

Nick

March 8, 2013 - 6:15pm

You can take cover behind things and you can shoot people, but it rewards you much more for stealth and taking the sneaky way through those situations. I think you're also overlooking the platforming, puzzles, Zelda-style use of weapons... basically all the other things that went into it.

Could not agree any more with this review. This game is an incredible experience from start to finish, only hampered by some poorly placed quick time events and some people unfortunately seem to be having glitches. Can not comment on the multiplayer as I have not touched it, not my thing.

Everyone has that one guy who just won't shut up about your kill-score online.

I really, really want to get this game, but I'm afraid I'll be preoccupied with Monster Hunter Tri U for quite a while in a bit.

March 8, 2013 - 3:55pm

Surprisingly good game, especially if you have a 360 and haven't played Uncharted. However it's short, and can be beaten in a rental period, if you have lots of time during that rental period. So my contribution to the community rating is 8/10 and a rent it.

Good review Mr. Cramer, bravo. And whoever was giving you shit online is my hero.

Zetra3

March 8, 2013 - 5:15pm

Any game can be beaten in a rental period unless its an Epic RPG.. funny thing is this Tomb Raider is longer then playing Anniversary and Legend in a row if you know what your doing. But $50-$60 for a good single-player is worth it i say... and yet i wont pay $10 for a damn go MP
