Screwattack should make a list of top 10 games to watch, this would prolly be in that list somewhere >_>
stastny1986
I personally really enjoyed this game but I understand why someone wouldn't want to buy it. This game is probably going to be more of a cult classic. good reveiw
bassplayer13
mayhaps ill check it out when it's $20 at gamestop

Any One Piece fans here, New World Symphony was used when Luffy defeated Crocodile!

It is ironic how an awesome story and visuals would make an awesome movie yet they decided to make a game that barely has ANY gameplay within it. Perhaps Capcpom should go into the movie business?
Thievius Racoonus
Man, Jared just gets raped by all the games he has to review
Garbalen
Game looks fun for a lazy Saturday.

It's a shame that they couldn't just turn it into a fully-fledged anime. The game really is more like an anime than a game. I agree that it is good, but as a game, not so much, which is a shame. It almost feels like wasted potential.
ChuckZ85
Great review, Jared. I think you covered just about every part of the game accurately. Personally speaking, I definitely see this becoming more of a cult hit, then anything else, just based on what you had described. I also think this will be one of those polarizing titles, where some will truly appreciate the overall story and characters, as well the the game itself. While others, will almost completely despise it, seeing it as "barely a game" and more of a 6-7 TV show, made interactive at best.

Exactly!

i plan on getting after a price drop.

So maybe its not worth buying, but I certainly don't regret doing so. I loved the experience, it was an absolute blast, everything from the art style to the music to the voice acting to story was superb to me. But unfortunately the gameplay is where it lacks, the shoot'em up sections are pretty bring and never a challenge(at least on normal) the Brawler segments are bit more fun, but still lack variety. The most enjoyable gameplay parts are the boss battles which are actually a lot of fun(not to mention fairly difficult), and I love replaying them. The QTEs rarely affecting the following scene does bug me, a few more branching scenes would have been nice even if they don't completely change how things play out.
In a way its similar to FFXIII in that it looks and sounds great but is lackluster gameplay wise, the difference is that I had a lot more fun with Asura's Wrath then FFXIII.

I have to say, I bought this game on the recommendation that it was worth at least one play through. I got it online for about $40 with the intention of selling it again to make my money back, but after finishing it, I'm not so sure. I loved the story and want the DLC, but otherwise I may never play it again. If you enjoy anime or even just Naruto, I definitely recommend at least one playthrough.
Broseidon
I'm a pretty big anime fan...I'm sure you can tell. I definitely got the feel of Naruto from this especially with the ultimate ninja storm series. The music, and cut scenes reminded me of the story line battles in the latest installment.
LineBeckIV
I kinda wasn't expecting much from the gameplay during the time nearing the games realease.

So in short, I'm going to watch someone else play through on youtube. The DLC to fight a Street Fighter isn't enough for that. But I got to say, these gaming companies should start producing animated shorts or shows on the side.
The Theory
well at least it's not Heavy Rain.

They used, what I call "Jumbo-Champloon's theme" as a boss song. ... NERDGASM!

The gameplay to price ratio to this game is so bad that it makes me want to punch Capcom in the nuts.
Flapperdoodle
This game looks great in story, which is something I have been looking for for a long time.

Ashuraman is better than the guy from Ashura's Wrath. KA-KAKAKA!!

Sounds like a good redbox title.

I'll give this game a try, I was curious since it was announced and while it seems that the gameplay deprtment is not the best part of the game the rest of it looks interesting but I'll wait for later down the road because Mass Effect 3 is coming this month
Zodia195
Normally I am not into action games like this, but this one has caught my attention. I happen to think that a good SL (storyline) is critical for great gameplay, or I'll lose interest quickly. And I love cut scenes *thinks of KH 2*. In other words, I would consider getting this game, but I'd wait for the price to go down first at least $15.
Payne
I'd buy that for a dollar
hedges1001
i dunno i'll stillprobably get this game when it goes down to around 30 quid. i love stupidly over the top games
SacrificedAbomination
Wow I'm actually impressed. Though the score isn't that great, Jared gave this game a lot of praise for what it was trying to do. It isn't a game that I would expect in depth gameplay, and honestly I'm hoping it's inevitable sequel will do much better in the gameplay department. The presentation though is spot on and if it is compared to an Anime instead of a game it is an experience like no other. I'd suggest to anyone who is thinking about playing this game to rent this game instead of buying as $60 isn't anywhere near what this game should have been sold for, and chances are you will only play it once and you will not want to play it for a while afterwards.

dvoRAK? seriously, its a pet peeve of mine when people pronounce the names of composers wrong. its not "d-vor-ak" its "d-vor-JAHK"
DustinLovesMario
Ok i'd rent this :D and i have a free rental at family video YAY.

And here I was, thinking that this would be Capcom's attempt at trying to take a bit of God of War's market share and at least doing well with it.
I don't know, finding out that it is just one big movie with few possible endings makes it feel like a bummer to me already.
Sorry Capcom. Your Devil May Cry collection looks like a better thing to look forward to than this.
JxL
Jared, are there any games you DO like?
eranikusnxt
So, wait till it goes down to 20$? I can wait.
LousyTactician
I can't believe how disappointing this game turned out. I was expecting the game to be cinematic, but given Capcom's history for understanding that most GAMES need their big selling point to be the GAME I was also expecting SOME kind of involving combat to go with it. For crying out loud Capcom, you're not Quantic Dreams!
Schmooblidon
yh guys just give all your money to blockbluster instead, thats cool.
Yourname942
if you want repetative play Dynasty Warriors :) the 4th one is badass tho (music as well)
hedges1001
nah if you are gonna go the DW route then go with 7 xtreme legends
ALLoY20
I laughed my way through the demo, I must have said "WTF am I playing?" about 10 times. But that was enough for me, I'm really not into this style or story telling or gameplay.
FrankHaggar
Another case of a game that should have ben a movie
Gaming
I played the demo and thought it was really cool. The moon scene was over-the-top. I might buy it when it's cheaper.
Icipall
Asura's Wrath seems to be a game that would gratly benefit from a group of friends and a WiiU style controller. You could have an awesome time with your friends "watching" the game, while all the controls, QTEs and such only appeared on the controller's screen, not on the TV-screen.
If I had PS3 or X360, I would buy this game.
Hayamo
This game seemed like it would be rather polarizing. The demo didn't sell me on it but I still might have to give it a try for the sheer amount of crazy in it.
destructorv2
i got a glimpse at a sample booth, and by god it looks great! Sure it might look generic, and most of the scores are 5/10, but i seen people play it, and they were enjoying their time.
SideSmash
I can see this as a cult classic. It sacrifices the things that make a game good for a part of gaming that needs work. It doesn't totally falter, but it does look like something I'd enjoy.
PhantomExdeath
This is basically the action equivalent of a Visual Novel type game. I like the art style too and the characters are really interesting. The only thing I don't like is the 'On the Next episode' type preview as it kinda spoils the story. If you are going to have those in, those should be played if you select some sort of Save and Quit option. I agree with Jared, its worth a rent, because the $60 price is kinda high for it I find.
Kaibaman41
Out of another review I've seen I wonder why both Jared and Angry Joe both say an Unlockable Episode with a different ending when the Unlockable 18th Level is called The True Level 18 even though it is very easy to unlock it, If you think about this game it should have been just an Anime Movie sense most of it is cutscene while theirs probably only an hour and 30 minutes or so of gameplay.
Jared
I said it right in the review. "True Episode 18" is exactly the same as "Not True Episode 18", boss fight and all. The only thing that is different is about two minutes of extra ending cutscene added in.
Kaibaman41
Hmm..guess I didn't catch that at first, sorry bout that
