The battle good and evil in almost every culture's religions and legends seems to have originated with the battle between day and night. They all have shockingly similar stories and tales, even with the surrounding heroes and characters.

Okami was perhaps the first PlayStation 2 game my nephew played.
What a game to start out on.

The 3ds sequel Okami-den actually has a little bit of history in that the whole you play as Amerturusus's (and I am pretty sure I misspelled that) son has some reference to the Legend of the First emperor where the said emperor is actually pretty closely related to the said Sun Goddess. Also for awhile before reading some lore, I actually thought that the wolf was a dude, I suppose the goddess (and I using this term because I can say it but I can not spell the name right) leaves a similar impression on me that samus did on other gamers. The impression of "we fight through a gazillion of these bad boys and now we realize the he is a she?!" Oh yeah and um embarrassingly enough...I've never had a Wii so I never really got to play the game...hell I learn about the lore from most of these game from places like here.

Great episode! I thought the legends were a lot more similar to the story of Okami, than they actually are, so this was pretty informative ( Plus I love hearin about these kinds of legends).
