Those people only make Jack Thompson right. Or it's a video game or it's gonna mess with your brains. I don't get why people are ok with GTA or saints row but rage when a bad guy try to do bad things with Lara Croft...
Love chad's thoughts on the Hotline Miami deal. Great insight man.
Eh, no one is refusing to sell Hotline Miami. If they want to put a scene like that in they have all the creative freedom in the world to do that, they will just have to suffer in sales for their 'art'.
I agree Chad on the Hotline Miami 2 situation. You summed it up perfectly.
Chad you're ready for October now, huh? You said Friday September 9th, 2013. I agree with what you said about Miami Hotline 2
i like how it says "Liberations, HD" when the Vita runs in 720p HD.
A big part of it is likely because the games industry still has the stigma of being just for children.
Agreed. Movies, books, and tv have done far more than that with not nearly as much controversy. Maybe it's just another one of those things where we have to grow up as an industry and take deeper meaning from what is presented to us.
Definitely agree with Chad about the Hotline Miami 2 controversy.
Hm, wonder where these people where when F.E.A.R 2 came out.
i wonder why chad said that also lol
Okay... I'd understand the Hotline Miami controversy, if the rapist were *allowed* to rape his victim, but... they don't like the scene even though the rapist was going to be *stopped?!* What about when Robocop saved a woman from getting raped in the movie? Nobody complained then! So Robocop rescuing a woman from a rapist is okay, but the Hotline Miami hero doing so is wrong?
Creativity is Creativity...there's no wrong or right. The wrong and the right are merely subjective. It's a game that's supposed to be horrifying in the first place and explores the dark themes of a world with crime....just like in real life, but in a work of fiction that reflects and relates to what happens in real life with a few extra themes here and there for the sake of entertaining the player immersed in the experience.
Hey, Chad's back...and apparently has mastered time travel since this was recorded on September 9th :P Anyways, good point on the Hotline Miami 2 situation.
Chad nails it yet again...
Except it's the 6th, not the 9th, so I have to dock you one.
He leaves out the context of the rape scene. What happens is this: you think you saved the girl, but as she is thanking you, your character is unzipping his pants to which the girl reacts negatively on.
Call it creativity, but it can still be distasteful. The first game made it clear how cruel violence is, this second game seems to switch the tone to a more 'comical' or 'ironic' way. The first game made you say 'omg!', the second 'aaaaaawh shiiiiiit, here we go!' My point: creativity is fine, but it falls flat when it is in the wrong hands. It doesn't work when its not executed well. In this case it evokes the wrong, unintentional responds from the player. It's like making Disneyland accidentally horrifying.
I'm getting tired of this. If you censor bad things in any form of entertainment, all you are doing is making things worse. There is nothing wrong with something like that if it is shown in a negative light. It isn't a form of condoning it. Besides, and I'm not trying to sound terrible or anything here but, rape has always been a thing. A terrible thing, but it's been around since before recorded history. If you censor it and try to pretend that it doesn't happen then it will only get worse. I say let rape happen in any form of art so it can be shown as just how terrible of an act it is.
Very well put Chad.
well said chad well said
Agreed Chad, Agreed.
