The most important thing when creating a theme is to do everything exactly how you want. The designer must create a image they all understand and resonates with them. The truth is, if the artists are satisfied with their project, the consumers will love it too.

It would be interesting to see what would happen to franchises if they were softboiled instead.

Modern Warfare is not a good game, the way that you try to shoehorn and justify your fanaticism of the franchise is just plain wrong. You have to take the game has it is supposed to be interpreted as, it's not supposed to be a tongue and cheek action flick and even if you have to take the game has a parody of it's own work it just fails has a game all by itself...

Just because it's your opinion doesn't make it fact, quit acting like your superior to everyone else, just because people like what you don't like, that just make you look more pathetic than the YOUR calling pathetic.

Ok, argument time, I've got ALOT to say so, brace yourselves for full fanboyism incoming. Your point on seriousness in humilty is far fetched to say the least, and Max Payne offers A TON of analogies and quick one liners that fit in so well. (This place was like bagdad with G-strings, There were more smoke and mirrors than a strip club locker room, etc.) Max Payne 3 was also a transitional point of the noire feel of the first games. Max Payne really had NOTHING TO LIFE FOR, that might make him uninterresting an appealing, but it helps us see him for what the experiences of the other games have turned him into such as his choices about Mona, the death of his family, the Valerie Winterson affairs etc. So the developper WANTS Max to seem flawed and his scinisim to increase to lead up to the moment of redemption THAT DOES arrive unlike what you said. The entire airport level is his redemption, you can hear it, feel it in the dialogue, it's his last stand, and he'll make the anatagonist (who I will not name for those of you who haven't played mp3) pay for the deception at Max's expense. I do agree on some point you guys made though. The gore doesn't help in any way, but I didn't find it a problem either. The swearing isn't as bad as you made it seem, there is alot, but not in exageration( Walton's bar flashback mission aside, they're trying to establish stereotypes) I do realise all I've said is in defense of Max Payne 3 iself and not the issue of mature games, but Max Payne is NOT the correct example of this. Max Payne is a noire game, it's supposed to be depressing an gritty. A good example of the hard boiled effect would be Shadow the Hedgehog, Prince of Persia even Zelda(twilight princess was darker and grittier YET it was an excellent game, the grit did not serve as a negative consequence, it changed the feel, yes, but I didn't hurt the overall experience.

I like your presentation and the lesson about how games should grow up a bit more than TGO. Don't get me wrong, he still makes great points but Extra Credits seems to take the approach of, "I'm teaching you" while TGO is like, "I'm talking at you".
