I enjoyed the game. the game play was fun and simple as for the story i am still convinced that Anthony was only there to keep people from calling the game raciest. but the point is the story shouldn't matter as long as the game is fun right?

I haven't actually played this game yet, as most people are telling me its shit, and yahtzee said that i could simply re-create the experience of other M by playing Metroid Prime and hiring a stripper to slam my head with a car door. Anyway, why did you mention that what you say in this clip is merely your opinion? doesn't that just mean that it is in fact something we can argue about here? I thought the point of these shows was that you were trying to persuade us of something, that is, changing our opinions. One thing you said that i am not well convinced of is that a lot of the problem with this game's narrative is translation. I remember seeing the opening cut scene from unskipable, and samus just talked and talked like she was making a ton of recordings in some voice journal thing. I doubt that could have sounded good in japanesse either. I dont think that it was just one bad voice actor who was to blame for how terrible she sounded either. I think Nintendo wanted Samus to be stoic (in the way that you just expressed is not stoic, ironically enough) like all the fans figured she was. That sounds crazy as fuck I know, but it makes more sense to me then they hired someone who was so dreadfully talentless that she couldnt deliver any emotion at all.

Not so sure how I feel about this. While I respect his subjective perspective I would make the oberservation that japan is weird, for many reasons not even they understand. I would disagree with the assertion that japanese games demean women anymore than american games though. While Japanese culture has been on a different plane of existence from most other developed nations, the game culture has embrace females who are not intimidated by their gender, and are not ashamed of the role of women in the home /society nore are they constrained by it. The game scene is way more mature and developed than the anime or film scene in that country. The fact that they have a caucasion fetish worse than michael jackson and that bestiality was the prevailing form of porn for decades or thier fetish with minors are not the strangest parts of their national identity... I would put the social indifference to sexual harassment at the top of the goof off list they have going on. How many women are groped or sexually assaulted in populated public places is astounding. While I have not ever been to japan I have many friends living there currently and have known many exchange students from there. Japan is a beautiful country with astounding people as I've made many friends from japan. That doesn't make these social trends any less inconceivable.
At any rate the characterization of samus that the rest of us draw from the game is clearly different than your bob, fair enough. I would just argue that the broad perception of her character as mentally stunted from daddy issues presented in such blunt and broken fashion kinda breaks with the former assertions of the protagonist. If we all percieved her to be a calm smart strong women and they made her a broken dysfunctional individual its as bad as adapting a jersey shore script to the next mario game. Melodrama has its place in japanese games but the stuff of that metroid were never intended for melodrama.

Alright bob I watch your show a lot and I love it, and honestly I do like the new direction, or at least I do now that I've gotten used to it: It makes the show more interesting to watch and actually worth _watching_ instead of just listening to like a radio show and it keeps thigsn interesting to hear you making your points in between battles with video game things and color coded ninjas, plus I love Bounofacio (I think I spelled that wrong) and Ivan.
But, I have to side with extra Credits on this: actions define a character, you seem to dismiss a person with no voice or even speech bubbles as having no personality. Let me ask you something: what about a mute or bumd person ie a person physically incapable of talking who also doesn't knwo sign language, do they not have a personality just because they can't speak or communicate? Do their expressions and actions not mean anything? Does a mute serial killer and a mute humanitarian both lack any personality?
I mean that makes as much sense as saying a voiceless video game character has no personality. Oh yeah and you yourself just said that Link has a personality, different in every otehr game but he has a personality, but also no voice, or do shouts of "HA!" in combat count as giving him a voice and therefore a personality? IS that the one dividing line between Samus and Link that Links shouts when hs swigns his sword? Well if that's teh case, and I know you don't care for the Prime games, then wouldn't Samus' gasps when she's hurt in that game count.
Hoenstly, I see your points about how things would work better in a 16-bit game, but only _only_ if Samus hadn't had half a dozen games showing her as seemingly independent bounty hunter beforehand. Yes I get that following orders is critical in a militayr operation, but honestly in that case they could have done so much, what if they let you choose to either follow orders and keep the suit off or turn it on and defy orders in order to change how thigns play out between Samus and Adam later on?
Again, as much as I see your points, I have to side with Extra credits on this one and I disagree with Samus only getting any personality once she was given a voice.

Wait, it doesn't make sense that Samus finds suit upgrades?
Is Bob completely oblivious to the story of Metroid?
Zebes was the home planet of the Chozo... the people who gave Samus her suit. THAT'S WHY THERE ARE COMPATIBLE UPGRADES ON ZEBES. They also had a colony on SR388... hence the upgrades. Anywhere there are suit upgrades, there are Chozo ruins. It DOES make sense.
So the point stands: why would it make sense that she wouldn't use her varia suit WHEN SHE ALREADY HAS IT, when she needs to use it, just because her daddy surrogate told her not to?
