The Game OverThinker - Episode 77: "I'm Not a Gamer"
The Game OverThinker Ep: 77 - I'm Not a Gamer
The Game OverThinker gets philosophical on the new Nintendo 3DS ads. And a Special announcement about the future of The Game OverThinker
» Show: The Game OverThinker
10:24, that speech made me never want to call myself a gamer ever again. did anyone one else think of nazis?
I have been watching this series for a very long time and I have no problem with anything you do. True fans wouldn't complain about such little things such as a storyline.
That is what I was thinking. What the hell was that?
Bullshit. This is all bullshit. There are like two shows that keep me coming back to screwattack now days, and this is one of them. This new format had better deliver quality content, or I am going to be really pissed off. I clearly remember signing up for the advantage program, and it was a day that you had to be a member to see the show that Bob mentioned. I am all for supporting screwattack, but if I don't get the content that I am looking for, I will have to stop. First Jose, then Destin, and then Jared, and finally this? Are you kidding me? Craig, you are the boss. I feel like the ship is sinking all around me. Don't let it all go to pieces man.
I am a gamer. I play games. Text book definition.
I am a gamer. I play games because they give me an outlet in a world that doesn't accept me. If they think that being a gamer is bad then ya know what they haven't tried it yet. They just don't get how much the outlet could mean. think about all the cliques of people out there. Why should my outlet be so bad? I think the brutal and primal way of sports (purposefully stereotypical) is a shady outlet leading people to being physical and violent, yet they say me going around in a fake world is going to change who I am in the real one?
we are on shaky ground people. shaky ground.
I am a pokemaniac and better for it.
I thought game overthinker was part of screwattack why am I getting adds
I don't think the problem was Nintendo shunning gamers. Rather, it distinguished an 'archetypal gamer' (someone who owns a home console, and regularly plays games) from a person who may not use a DS for its gaming components, but can still easily access some games. Really, they've just rebranded the term 'casual gamer'
what was with the weird flickering
... are you telling me these moaning dipshits in the comments section have actually succeeded in destroying this show? fuck no wonder no one wants to be associated with gamers.
The irony here is that while alot of people liked the new direction TGO has taken with the story elements and special effects, alot of people hated and stopped watching the show. Now Bob is creating two shows where he can give his audience the new stuff they like and the old stuff they miss. Its genius.
Not diggin this idea, it was easy to find gameoverthinker on SA but it will we more obnoxious to check multiply sites for videos that use to be on one Hub world.
This is exactly why I have begun hating Bob. The gaming industry is being poisioned by these non gamers. I makes me sick to see games that deserve to sell well wind up flopping like Darksiders II,Splatterhouse 2010 to name a couple. Yet the causal junk like Call of Duty sells millions everytime and it changes almost nothing with each game. Again and again I see the industry being poisoned, with getting sold 1/2 a game and the rest sold to you as DLC. Making games easier and easier, shoving junk out the door like Double Dragon Neon. I have lost my faith in the industry, it's tainted and I want no more of it. It makes me cry to see what gaming has turned into. I grew up gaming on a Commodore 64, Sega Master System and the NES to name a few. The only people left trying to keep a balance are the homebrew community that is making games for the older systems such as Battle Kid. They are the only ones carrying the torch trying to keep it lit.
I've been trying to remember what this format reminded me of lately. This is marvelously like the Super Mario Brothers Super Show. "Serious" informative talk framed with a fun parallel story.
Finally, you separated old style commentary from the story, I have been waiting for this since you started doing that. Good move bob, good move.
I like that announcement segment... It felt so real, so genuine... So, Game Overthinker's moving elsewhere? Will it be blip? Lots of online shows seem to be going there a lot.
This new show... Oh my God it DOES sound like what Doug Walker did! But not really. So basically, it's the same show but without the character associated with it? Sounds promising. Also, just how many shows are you going to have. You already have you Escapist Shows, plus that American Bob series on YouTube, think you can handle all this?
I agree with Nintendo on why they decided to follow this ad campaign. But doing right now is kind of a dumb move, considering they're about to release a new system that is supposed to get them back in the "hardcore" demographic. It's like Nintendo was about to take a step forward, but took two steps back in the process.
Yeah, had the problem too
I dont use adblocks. Ads are how sites get paid and I want them to get paid. Unless I am playing. Like now.
A bit sad to see TGO moving on, I always thought it brought a much needed spice to the usual shows presented here... well I do hope there will be some form of notification available for the new episodes so I won't miss them in the future. And best of luck with your "show unnamed".
As for this episodes topic, I'm glad you brought this matter to light from another angle. As this somewhat connects with your earlier episodes talking about "building a better gamer" and how we shouldn't let those stereotypes just do their thing, in order to get rid of this stigma from the inside.
Sadly the stereotype for "gamer" as of this day is really a sad sight, but that ignorant bullies would eventually become a part of the gaming culture was inevitable as it became more and more mainstream.
And if the "gamer" label dissapears completely, that could be a really good thing, because that'd mean that there'd be no label to use to discriminate anymore for the very games themselves, and people can move on to being asshats without having their behaviour lumped together with the nicer people enjoying the same thing.
But knowing the nature of people and how they react to "change" of any kind, I'm sad to say I have very little faith that anything will happen in a good 8-10 years. And that in the process, the word "Gamer" might become the title of the "elitists" that are nowadays labeled "Hardcore".
