huh.. why has my comments dissapeared...? what i said before was thanks for the silent hill mention that that it was not meant to be a parody but anything filmed in lego form can be cute and funny.. -_- ah maybe i clicked the preview button by mistake...?
Skullgirls never made it on to my list because he wasn't counting franchises with just one game. It would've been up there, believe me.
I agree, rape can be done if done carefully, and honestly, I do think it is weird how every female protagonist can only be strong if something bad happens to her. I've found myself to like female protagonists who are just strong in their own way. I think it's more of a challenge to do that in some ways, but if done right, can lead to fantastic results.
Thanks for giving us your opinions Lousy, we appreciate it!
The newest best seller, I'm tellin' ya.
Eh... you've got a point...
I guess, but I still think that's a bit of a stretch...
It's a slightly restricted and constrained geek pop-culture phenomenon centralized around Screwattack in the last few days/weeks causing controversy and generating discussions. Hope that was a bit clearer.
Wh-ho-what?! What does that even mean?
I said it before and I'll say it again, Majora's Mask fans (Majories) are the new Bronies! Good episode guys.
The Lara Croft with the Dragon Tattoo.
Another great podcast guys. Keep up the good work. N' stuff.
I agree with a lot of it going over his head, that's for sure.
Don't feel any shame in that, when I was a guest I had the exact same problem only much worse. The next time I'm a guest on a podcast I'm using a less noisy chair.
It's a personal thing, but that doesn't mean you weren't fair and honest. Quite frankly, I still think your complaints went over Craig's head to some extent.
But yeah, it was an interesting piece...
I don't think harsh is the right word, I'm being honest about how I feel and if I'm not happy why should I mince words? Either way, thanks for the mention.
It's funny you mention the things you do about Okami, because I have similar-yet-different issues with the Zelda franchise. But I guess it's all opinion anyway.
As for the point I brought up about rape =/= a strong woman per se, you can thank Darkseid for that one. I just reiterated his complaint on Twitter in this podcast.
Also, I'm glad you liked my host work. I'm still a little disappointed that my typing and rocking translated into static noises, but I guess it was worth it...
Wait Flaps, so you thought Skull Girls pushed it too far, but put Dead or Alive in your list of best fighting game franchises? At least Skull Girls had that Pain Wheel girl, who sure as hell wasn't fan service (or at least I hope wasn't).
On the Tomb Raider controversy I'll say what I've already said.
I don’t think the problem people have is the idea of a game having rape in it. It is a very taboo subject, yes that only a handful of games in my opinion have ever handled well, but it can be handled well if done carefully. The problem people seem to have is the way the game’s developers have marketed the game. They’re practically using the inclusion of rape or at least attempted sexual assault as a selling point or something worth being praised for. I don’t think I’m the most qualified person to discuss this issue, but this is what I will say. Any writer who thinks rape should be used as a promotional point for their story, needs to give up their writing career.
Maybe the game will be a rare example of something that tackles the issue well, but the trailer and marketing isn’t making me hold my breath. I really like what Whitly said about how it seems storytellers think in order for a female to be a strong character the character NEEDS to have faced some kind of traumatic event. Even though some of my favorite female characters face traumatizing events in their stories (Ellen Ripley) I think it is a very flawed idea, ANYBODY can be strong by simply being brought up by good morals. They don't need to see their entire family die and their puppy shanked to death before their very eyes.
This reboot of Tomb Raider is probably the most interested I've ever been in the franchise (that doesn't say much though) and I do hope they pull off the game's narrative well, but if it ends up being to the Tomb Raider franchise what Other M is to Metroid I won't give a shit how 'bold and risk-taking' it is.
I respect your opinion on Okami Whitly, but while I like the game I think it is MASSIVELY overrated. The puzzles and bosses repeat themselves WAY too much to the point that there are likely 30 different occasions where a puzzle narrows down to drawing a line between two objects, the dialogue can be long-winded AS FUCK, I never felt the game found a good balance between humor and drama, and a large amount of the brush powers you receive are just the exact same abilities you've already had with a new element tact on (face it, there isn't a huge difference between drawing a connecting line of fire and drawing a connecting line of lightning).
But hey at least I don't hate it like the Fiery Joker does http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcBbcWW5Pg4&list=UU5sWQK4sy6Ur1USdUrEVcaA...
Overall you've probably been my favorite host so far Whitly, nice job.
By the way, the cackling was a combination of my typing and me swaying about in my rocking chair. Yeah...this computer needs to be replaced badly.
Also, I got the name of that shooter wrong. I'll check the real name tomorrow morning.
Finally, thanks again for having me here. It was a real treat, I'll say that much...
I can't help it: all of those years on the internet have turned me into a "That's what she said", Pavlovian laugher. I tried, but I just couldn't resist chuckling at the unintentional innuendos...
Thank you for the mention. Another great show guys!
