I wish I could collect free money floating in the sky for a living.

I am sure no one is going to go insane hearing the coin sound effect non stop.
Juggernaut
Glad to see they brought back the white leaf. My daughter loves getting it. LOL
JRokujuushi
Ugh. I hated that stupid "wah" voice when it was used sparingly in the original theme, now they've just flooded the theme with it. And it's still the exact same theme they've used in two other games. I am disappoint
onlyelisha
I'm a bit sad because I misread the title and thought it said something about a new super mario brothers super show.
Dukemike
Was that boo... scrolling automatically? In MY Mario Universe?! UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!
Cam the TriforceBoy
...The colossal Boo certainly caught me off guard. o_o
WestCoastGamer92
*sees new Giant Boo* OH SWEET JESUS, IT'S THE GHOST OF THE TROLOLO MAN!!
Yokai
It's interesting to see that, at the end of the video, it states in Japanese that dying 5 times will provide the player with an assist block... Not sure if this is a new announcement or not. It's a much better way of helping struggling players when compared to the DKC returns style where it takes away control. That's no fun!
Gaijin Goombah
Yeah but I wonder if it's really needed considering the crazy amount of 1ups you get. I mean, platformers really are trial and error, but with the basic removal of the lives system, do we really need to be able to breeze though a stage?
Metroidvania98
Actually I disagree completely. In DKCR I never used the blocks because I didn't want the game to play for me and I didn't want the game to skip the secrets (as it does if you use it). I knew it was there for beginners and that was fine but it was not for me. But in Mario 3D land the block appears and it gives you a white tanooki suit with infinite star power and yet you can keep playing and get all the secrets. All the challenge went away. Luckily you could not use that in the secret worlds but still it took the challenge and fun away for half the game.
It is a much worse system.
Yokai
Oh, I didn't know it gave star power too. I just assumed it was a variation on the normal tanuki suit in this game. It could be the same as mario land 3d though, which does seem to eliminate the point of the challenge.
Metroidvania98
I still prefer the DKCR and New Super Mario Bros wii super guides. They "beat the game" for you, sure, but the skip every single secret and collectible. So if you want the coins in Mario you have to play the game yourself and if you want the Kong letters and the puzzle pieces in DKC you have to play yourself. But it seems like in this game you can be invincible and still collect the secrets. Sure, you don't "have to" use it but thats kind of like playing on an emulator and saying that you don't have to use quicksave. You eventually will. (Only emulator I played was the legal game version in Sega Genesis collection on the PSP which had the quicksave feature on every game. So after real frustration I beat Metal Sonic using the quick save, saving after every hit I made. So I didn't really beat him)

As long as I can have the option to play as Luigi from the beginning instead of Mario. Fuck Mario. Also. I don't really think I like this whole.. coin thing. It was always a fun idea but tons and tons of coins are Wario's thing, right..? Being able to have more than 1,000 coins at one time and dear God all the lives you'll rack up.. .. Why? I. miss. challenge. I'll still get it, though. It's Mario. Derp.
bmcj199
Extra live doesn't make a game easy. Lives became obsolete when saving was invented.
Zeph
The golden-leafed Tanooki suit that seems to act the same way as a starman screams "easyeasyeasy".
bmcj199
The golden Tannooki Leaf basically says, "you suck...hard" It's not like you are forced to get it. Same thing in 3D Land
Gaijin Goombah
OMG where were you people in my super guides video!!!
bmcj199
LOL Sorry Goomba, I didn't see your rant yet. I'll watch it later.
Zeph
3D Land was way too easy as it is, since as long as you didn't lose the tanooki suit you could basically just hover through every level. ._.
bmcj199
Then that make Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World extremely easy too!
Zeph
I have skipped levels just using the cape. >_>
bmcj199
Every flying/hover item in every Mario game, makes it easy, as long as you don't fuck up. Let's just leave it at that. ;)
Zeph
I know, I know. It's just I remember dying a hell of a lot more in Mario Bros. 3 and Mario World than I ever have in the recent ones. Of course, you could always attribute that to player error and the fact I was really young.. ..lolol, nevermind who cares. It's Mario. I'll still say, I don't care as long as I get the option to play as Luigi from the start.
Superbobax
WOW this game is gonna be soooo easy :/

Super Mario Bros in Goldmember, or Gold Suit, or something like that.

Looks like the golden leaf is Nintendo's "the game plays itself mode" for this iteration.
RetroEternity
I haven't been this excitebike for a Mario game in awhile.
Gaijin Goombah
I hope to GOD I'm not the only one that saw a 1up after 100 coins... This game is going to be REAAAAAAAAAAAALLY generous.
Kaibaman41
Especially with the whole Coin Gimmick, I still wonder why they made that Max Coin Challenge thing in one of the trailers.
bmcj199
But to be fair, extra lives are now obsolete. 1-ups don't matter anymore because of save points and other factors. I will go out to say that they are only still here in Mario games is to keep the classic formula.
Dukemike
We all saw it, but you know Ninty is trying to kill of the whole lives thing anyways ever since 3D Land, so... it's ok. The lives are still there for longtime fans, but so common as to not interrupt your play with a game over as often as the olden times.
Gaijin Goombah
You know, after some thought, this is ok. The only thing I wish Nintendo would get rid of once and for all is the godawful collision, but other than that, I'm ok with this. At this point, as long as the controls are tight and the camera is good, I accept this as being good. Looking at you Mario Galaxy...
