Okay.... First off I want to say that if you are a person who thinks that Sonic ripped of Mario, that to me is a confession that you don't do your video gaming research. If you look all around the internet you will find that there are news updates that say that Sega and Nintendo both had the idea of making a racing game with flying, boating, and just plain old racing AT THE SAME TIME!!!! The real reason why I think Mario Kart 7 came first was because they only made it for the 3DS, if you look at the video that is posted you see that SASRT is made for the 3DS, XBOX 360, PS3, PSVITA, and etc. Realizing that the game is going to take longer to make for the different consoles, it was no wonder what Mario Kart (which is only on the 3DS) would be released sooner than SASRT. That part wasn't from the internet, it's just common sense. Plus, I have heard that the physics for the underwater racing were pretty exaggerated and the best they did with the flying is only a hang glider and a propeller for the 'boats'. Sega took the time and effort to make their physics realistically, it's going to take time to figure out all that science and math. And none of the cars, that's right NOT KARTS, have the same transformations; just imagine the hard work on the graphic designers had to do to make that possible. But what I want people to realize is that I DON'T HATE MARIO, but I do hate whenever people compare Mario to Sonic and just say Sonic's the rip off and dissing him. So please, whenever you think a game is ripping off another game, please do your research first before you make accusations, otherwise you will look like a newbie.
I'd love to own a Power Drift cabinet one day. Same with at least one of the 2 Mario Kart arcade games (but those are very expensive). I did a blog about them several months ago. They were a joint venture between Nintendo & Namco-Bandai. Pac-Man was in them. The 2nd one even had Mametchi from Tamagotchi along with Ms. Pac-Man, Waluigi, Blinky, and a lot of the usual suspects. It also had cameo appearances by several other characters including Jr. Pac-Man, Daisy, Birdo, etc.
I guess, I wasn't completely familiar with Power Drift and yeah, when it comes to videogames, most of the best ideas are usually improved versions of existing ideas.
Don't bother because I doubt it will make a difference. Like I've said many times in the comments section of this trailer, people saying that Sega ripped off Nintendo should go check out Power Drift and see who began the kart racing sub-genre of the overall racing genre & who was originally ripped off.
I love Nintendo being an owner of the original NES, but I'm getting tired of the ignorant comments here of people acting like Nintendo was the first to create kart racers & other types of games. If Sega decided to rename games like Sonic Drift 1 & 2 and the 2 games of the Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing series as Power Drift 2, 3, 4, and 5, I think people would go back & find out that the first Power Drift came out in 1988 & finally shut up about it. As a matter of fact, I think the Sonic Drift games would have been Power Drift games except that they realized they would sell more copies by having Sonic in the title. I don't think "Drift" being in the title of those games is any coincidence.
Power Drift wasn't simply a racer like the Out Run games (Out Run, Turbo Out Run, Outrunners, etc), Super Monaco GP and others, but was a kart racer which plays pretty differently than a traditional racing/driving game. The basic mechanics of kart racers like the tracks, unique characters each with their own cars, etc. came from Power Drift. Super Mario Kart expanded on those basic mechanics by adding things like turtle shells & other items you could use to manipulate the races. So I definitely agree that it added a chaotic element to the kart racing sub-genre, but it's unquestionable that Power Drift started that sub-genre since it was a kart racer as opposed to your traditional racer. Aside from the turtle shells & other items you could pick up in SMK, the 2 games are very similar though Power Drift had the superior technology to have rotation effects to angle the track on its axis to make turns more realistic. I have no doubt that Nintendo was looking at Power Drift when they were designing SMK. And that's not an insult to SMK.
I love how you all rag on this and not sony's Smash clone. oh the irony
Yeah, it sounds like Diddy Kong Racing. Mario Kart didn't come up with the air and sea karting.
Still looks pretty cool though
but super sonic SUCKS XP seriously, that feature and all his other weird friends (except for maybe tails) need to go die in a car fire!
Do an aileron roll!
Just make Sonic turn into Super Sonic for aesthetic reasons. He doesn't do any damage and he can fly and swim.
Yes I see Only Nintendo can do kart racing and Mario can do Party games but if they get competition that means its a rip off. You never even played the first one? Yet you insult it my god I like mario and nintendo but the fanboys have gotten out of hand. Honestly when was mario and nintedno allowed to be an EA with madden in kart racing or party games. By the way Sonic has had many racing games going back more than 15 years so this is not new. And why is nintendo fans only think mario kart and Diddy Kong are all they have. You do realize F zero is an awesome racing game and sega was part of the gamecube one gx chao even appear in it. But hey keep thinking like the 90s because sonic was not in smash nor in the Olympics with mario there still is a sega vs nintendo LOL
Seriously? They're doing it again? First with "Free Riders", and now THIS?!? Sega, why are you ripping off ideas from Nintendo? "Mario and Sonic are friends now" Don't give me that bullsh*t. This clearly rips off Mario Kart 7 AND Diddy Kong Racing. Hire some people to make original ideas for a change.
Since Sonic and Mario are "friends" now, what are the chances we see a kart racing cross over similar to the Olympics games at some point
I didn't even know this was happening. This is awesome. I loved the first game. No surprised people are getting butt hurt over Sega "ripping off"Nintendo. Probably the same people who bitched about android getting instagram. Get over it. Competition only forces Nintendo to stay on top of its game and not get lazy. Just look at EA and Madden. You really want that to be Mario Kart's fate if no one steps up and keeps providing competition? What are you scared Sega is gonna make a better game than Nintendo? Wake up, this isn't 1992. 20 years have passed since the 16 bit wars.
Well i really enjoyed the first so looking forward to this.
Couldn't be more wrong on the title here...they're not ripping off Mario Kart. They're CLEARLY ripping off Diddy Kong Racing. Still kinda looks cool though.
Alright the first one was actually really good, I thouroughly enjoyed it, this one has potentional too, even though now this one is ripping off Diddy Kong Racing, and I don't even think they're trying to hide it.
this game looks awesome the first SSASR was awesome and they put it on consols that you can enjoy online game play. This is only the second SSASR ,7 mario carts later.....
I actually don't get how MarioKart is anything like Power Drift aside from the fact that they're both racers. It's like saying NFL Blitz was heavily inspired by Madden because they're both football games or NBA Jam is like NBA 2K12 because they're both basketball games. What MarioKart did that no other racing game had back then and not for a long time after was introduce chaos and a party element to racing games and continued to be the king at it. I mean, the only other kart racer I could think of before Sega and Sony got it right was Diddy Kong Racing which was done by Rare but still a Nintendo IP. I think when it came down to pure racing, Power Drift was an awesome racer but racing games only appeal to hardcore gamers whereas MarioKart appeals to both casual and hardcore gamers.
