This review is “sucking pun” free.

bigjoe91: Is the True Arena the same thing as the Arena with bigger monsters and less life? If so, I'll pass...
5/19/13 12:57am
darkhyrulelord: The game may have felt easy to me for the most part, but I cha--no--COMMAND you to beat extra mode to unlock the TRUE Arena. That stuff if super tough and lots of fun. Also, the highlight for this game for me were the bosses and the music. Good review.
5/8/13 9:11pm
Jawbreaker Alumni: Well the special worlds in Mario 3D Land are just The Lost Levels, but in 3D, matter of fact, the whole game is SMB1 and Lost Levels but in 3D because of the way the levels are just broken up, that's what I think.
5/8/13 6:37pm
bigjoe91: And in the end, I'm not a completionist. I like that this is a proper hard mode compared Mario 3D land's bonus world almost being a bad fan mod
5/8/13 1:53pm
Jawbreaker Alumni: The hardest thing in the game like other Kirby games is 100% it. Beating a Kirby game is easy, completing it is another thing. In Ex mode, the enemies are harder to kill, when you get hit you lose more health, and the bosses have different patterns, dare I say, you can even die to Whispy Woods in Ex mode!

On your left, a field of letter "I" games... Oh and don't worry, I'm not giving up on the series.
5/11/13 3:13pm
bigjoe91: Thanks for the comments. I do have the original trilogy of Jak games.
5/11/13 1:49pm
darkhyrulelord: Still a lot of good I games up there. And no, you don't have to play Ico before Shadow of the Colossus, but you should try to play Ico if you have the chance. Not a must play though. And for Infamous, the game doesn't really change THAT much if you are evil or good. A little, but not much. Still fun though.

As for J, I say the Jak and Daxter HD Collection, or in particular, Jak 2.
5/7/13 8:07pm
bigjoe91: Yeah... Kinda doesn't cut it, unfortunately.
5/6/13 10:05pm
JxL: It's not the destination, its the ________. Oh wait, you don't have a PS3 so...hmmm...DQ VIII starts with a J....kinda....
5/6/13 7:48pm
bigjoe91: I'll check it out. I'm really more of a mainstream gamer, which is why I had trouble with I

I call the game safe at one point. I complain about the absence of feet. If I were you, I'd go to the comments section and start hating.
5/2/13 9:52pm
bigjoe91: Thanks! As for Lunatic+, if you're new to the series, I strongly recommend that you do a couple of battles in normal just to understand most of the gameplay mechanics. Lunatic+'s difficulty reaches (from what I could experience) the point where there is only a single option available for you to succeed and it comes down to a guessing game. Can't say for Lunatic, but in hard mode, with a solid strategy, you can win. It feels more rewarding and less tedious.
5/2/13 7:26pm
darkhyrulelord: Where did them feet go?? Also, awesome review Bigjoe! I'll probably ask for this one on Xmas or something since all I hear is mostly good stuff regarding this game. Although...is it possible to beat Lunatic + mode on your first run? I might give it a try since I'm a little insane.
4/26/13 3:36pm
bigjoe91: Then they have pretty freakin' skinny shins...
4/26/13 3:31pm
Bygjuce: I know where their feet are. It's obvious that they're all wearing high heels!
4/22/13 11:47pm
bigjoe91: "I never had that problem, I just took whichever two characters I thought looked cute together and made them marry."

I usually did that, checked their C support and if I liked where this was going, I continued.

"Not gonna lie, I've been playing on Hard Mode for my current 3 playthroughs. Now that I've tortured myself through the brutal Rogues and Redeemers part 3 DLC to get a shiny new skill, I think I might try Lunatic."

Yeah, I read somewhere that the DLCs were pretty much the only way to go if you wanted to beat Lunatic... Sad, really.

"You can marry her you know. Plus, she's only horny when around Chrom,"

I played as a female avatar first, so she was useless. Although she did try to cream my face... But, even though she's horny around Chrom, she still can't support him.

"And I feel the game perfectly understands its fanbase and their love for, "micro-management, the strategic choices, the grinding, the incentives for completion." and expanded upon it well. They included Lunatic mode after all."

True. I did mean, more levels of weapons, higher level caps maybe a bit more difference in the magic system, some AI customization in the optimize command, etc. I don't know, maybe I'm just asking for innovation for the sake of innovation... I guess I could've used even more stuff than it already had. Pretty good sign that I liked it, isn't it.

I'd say they managed to reek in some new fans, but I'm going to give the credit to Ike's success in Brawl, the fact that it's a handheld title and that people are just starting to know of the franchise. My guess is that they're still sRPG fans for the most part. Not too many occasional RPG fans will manage through this whole game.

Phew... Thanks!

A game that polarized the gaming community? For my letter H, I talk about Halo.
4/23/13 9:25pm
bigjoe91: I wish I could have Ikaruga... *sigh* You have no idea how much I want that game. And Halo one is combat evolved. It started as a playing with friend and ended up buying the console. Like I said, for the first time, a console was marketed as a teenager console, which is probably what spoke to me.
4/23/13 9:21pm
bigjoe91: Thanks, I really appreciate the comment!
4/23/13 9:21pm
bigjoe91: Indeed. Many good times were had. I loved sticking with grenades/needles... Although I did love Halo 2's dual wield also.
4/23/13 10:40am
BigK0003: Halo should take it. Halo 1 is still my favorite FPS. It has one of the best single/multiplayer campaign, and has one of the better story lines when it comes to the genre. I still don't get the satisfaction from first person shooters today, as i did from nailing someone across the map with a sticky grenade and yellin out "STUCK EM!" lolol good times indeed. :D
4/23/13 10:32am
BigK0003: Halo combat evolved is Halo 1 dude... lol

It's time for 16-bit jumping and shooting, it's time to go Maverick!
5/10/13 8:03pm
bigjoe91: (which is why I don't understand why the single dash is an upgrade...)
5/10/13 6:39pm
Bygjuce: No doubt one of the greatest games ever. I love the X series. Dashing and then jumping at just the right moment before the dash is over in order to get maximum distance is the greatest thing you can do in gaming. More people should copy it.
5/10/13 3:07pm
MagnumMagnus: Best. Game. Ever.
4/15/13 2:16pm
gaurdianaq: Probably because Boomer Stag Beetle didn't sound as cool :P
4/14/13 5:20pm
LBD_Nytetrayn: What can I say? Japan loves their puns.

That, and maybe they thought "Boomerang Stag Beetle" didn't flow as well from "Boomer Kuwanger" as "Chill Penguin" did from "Icy Penguigo." among others.

We built this entry on rock and roll! It's time for letter "G"!
4/13/13 11:35am
bigjoe91: Ooooh Hogan's alley. I didn't even think of that.
4/12/13 9:15pm
darkhyrulelord: Great entry for G! Yeah, Guitar Hero III was a lot of fun, even for me when I don't like music that much. Took me awhile to get to the harder difficulties, and my brother can still beat me, but I still have fun with it today.

As for my guess for H, I say Hogan's Alley.
4/9/13 3:59pm
bigjoe91: Wouldn't that be letter T?
4/9/13 12:26pm
MagnumMagnus: Game of Thrones?
4/9/13 10:59am
bigjoe91: Funny thing, I have an Harry Potter game, but I don't know where it comes from.

In celebration of the new Review a Great Game Day holiday, here are my impressions of my first playthrough of Ocarina of Time
4/7/13 9:47pm
bigjoe91: Thanks! I certainly didn't have much trouble with it. Kept falling in the shadow temple, but not because of a lack of skill, moreso a lack of patience
4/7/13 5:33pm
Noble Team 1: This was the first Legend of Zelda game and it still is pretty fun to play though the main theme and the gerudo valley music to me are the best musical parts of this game, though Ocarina of Time doesn't have the same impact on me as I replayed this game so many time as a kid that it's just easy to me back then and now. Finally nice review too.
4/7/13 1:30pm
bigjoe91: It was a good game. Thankfully, a coworker of mine is supposed to bring me Majora's Mask. I hope I can finally finish these games in order.

As for Navi, she does send a Hey Listen your way every time you start up your game. I guess that has an influence too.
4/7/13 1:28pm
bigjoe91: I really should've inserted the Great Fairies' laugh into my top 10 evil laughs blog...

Thanks for the good comments. In my mind, that's what a great game does: It gives a different experience depending on who you are.
4/7/13 12:36pm
caboose_-1: A very good read for a fantastic game. I still remember where a lot of items in the game are (so much so that when a roommate was playing through it he got mad at me because I would tell him how and where to get certain things). I stand by the claim that this is one of the greatest games ever made (although for personal preference I like the spiritual successor, Majora's Mask, more).

Compared to some of the other companions that Nintendo has put in their games, yes, Navi isn't that bad. Keep in mind that for a 10 year old playing through the game it was different; especially since the kind of notifications mechanic they had in the game was relatively new at the time.

Does Wario have enough guts to start his own adventures?
4/5/13 10:14pm
darkhyrulelord: Hm. I guess so. I'll still play it if I have the chance though.
3/31/13 2:14pm
bigjoe91: It shouldn't be a priority. Wario Land was more of a proof of concept that Nintendo could do something different to Mario. It's a nice to have.
3/31/13 1:50pm
darkhyrulelord: Good review Bigjoe! I might check this game out if I have the chance, but it's not on the top of my priorities.
3/31/13 12:29am
Burkhart: All of the powerups were supposed to be pots. It's slightly difficult to make a jet/bird themed vase in 8-bit. Haha.
3/30/13 10:02pm
bigjoe91: LOL It is! I honestly never saw that. I guess i just thought the powerup's icon looked like bunny ears.
