OK. So this is my first journal entry, so to the 1 or 2 people who actually read this, please forgive me if this seems sloppy.
But I've got a dilemma and, as the title of this entry suggests, I could use a little help here.
As you will see when I eventually find time and motivation to fill out my profile, you will see that I am a massive fan of all things Japanese (manga, anime and danmaku being my biggest vices). I recently decided to add another element of Japanese otaku culture to my collection of obsessions: Visual Novels.
Having high standards for my entertainment and being something of a ratings whore, I headed up vndb.org and found the highest rated visual novel on the site (preferably without excessive sexual content because, call me a pussy or old-fashioned or conservative dumbass or whatever the hell you want, unless the sex is in the context of the story, I just find that full blown hentai really isn't my thing). This was the result.
Ever17 is the tale of seven individuals who come to be trapped 153 feet within the underwater marine theme park, LeMU. During an apparently normal day at the park, a massive accident happens, placing almost half of the facility underwater. The path to the surface and the communication lines are cut off. In addition, LeMU is under constant assault by severe water pressure, limiting time to find a means of escape to 119 hours. Escape is not the only concern, however; many questions arise as to the legitimacy of the accident and whether or not those trapped there were brought there for a purpose.
Now here is my problem.
I like to give something back to the companies that make stuff I like (i.e. by buying whatever it is rather than downloading, watching fansubs or reading scanlations (unless there's absolutely no other way)). But no matter how hard I look the cheapest English language copy of the game I can find will set me back around £70 (or $110 if you're American). Now I'm all for giving something back to the creators, but I also believe in getting my moneys worth, and that is way too much for an 8 year old game. I'd even be content to get the japanese version and then download the englsih version off the net but freaking Japanese Amazon won't ship to anywhere outside Japan.
So what do you guys think I should do? If anyone does read this then please answer the poll at the top of the page.
And before you answer. It's sold out on play-asia.com
