We're back looking at more great JRPGs...
5/19/13 10:09pm
8thRann: i'd like to know where you got the info that pier solar is coming out for IOS? I've done some research and I hear it's not coming out for ios or psn. Can you confirm this for me cause after this video I would really like to get pier solar for my iphone but I've read it isn't. Please don't break this gamers heart
5/13/13 3:03pm
Zanon: I agree and also Shining Force 2 which was ahead of its time for a genesis game. I think they should of kept the Suikoden series in 2D, that's the reason I watch naruto because it reminds me of suikoden, I think some developers should keep to their roots and just make 2D better and more crisp, sometimes jumping to 3D kills it, I don't wanna play real life looking rpg its supposed to be a fantasy and fun and a escape into your own world but now its over consumed by graphics now days and it sucks.
5/13/13 1:50am
Kael Hyun: Again your missing Suiokoden II (IMHO) the best JRPG on the old PSX
5/12/13 11:01pm
Zodia195: I hope they do one of the Tales games or any of the Grandia games. I love Skies of Arcadia and Eternal Sonata though too. Or one of the Altelier games.
5/12/13 6:34pm
Queldroma: Don't worry there still Parasite Eve, The Gia Trilogy, Soul Blazer., Dragon quest and ETC and plus reviewing RPGs for a show like this I could only assume it would be hard because RPGs take like 30 hours to beat. More awesome content coming in the future.

Many people wanted to see our rooms, setups and collection. Well, here they are!
darkhyrulelord: Looks like a cool collection. Nice job
Queldroma: I got a idea I have an extra 360 but it has a Apple logo on it. I put it there just because I felt like it. Just tell him its the Apple Pippin I' m sure he'll would take it. lol
Game Sack: I'm not sure I understand the question. I mean if we lost enthusiasm we wouldn't be doing this silly show. But nostalgia is a hell of a drug and that really helps.
Game Sack: Pffft. I offered him my old phat white one (works fine) and he still wouldn't take it. I even have a spare copy of Test Drive Unlimited I offered him and still nothing. Did I mention that I offered these to him for free? He's insane, I say.
Queldroma: On a scale of 1 to 10 how jaded are you guys I know its your guys favorite median but you guys been hard core since the 1980s you guys have to be some what jaded

Great games don't have to cost a lot of money!
darkhyrulelord: Great episode! Thanks for pointing some of these out!
PhantomExdeath: Wish I had a Sega CD Memory Cart to play stuff like Rise of the Dragons :/
alondite345: Steam. That is all.
caboose_-1: Fantastic episode as always gentlemen. With all the money I will save with these games I think it's about time I go get a monocle!

We played some more really bad games so you don't have to!
Game Sack: You're right that it is different than many other platformers but that doesn't give it a pass. Different isn't always good (or bad for that matter). Aero just isn't fun. Exploring large levels looking for star platforms to jump on or hoops to jump through isn't exactly my idea of a good time. Combine that with horrible music on both consoles, a circus setting and one of the most insipid little mascots ever and you get a game that is, in our opinion, pretty bad. I've heard the second one is better but we haven't tried it. Anyway you're most certainly welcome to your opinion of the game but I will say that the game made me feel physically ill when playing it to capture footage. It's also very hard for me to watch that segment in this video. So it may not be universally bad. But to me, to both of us actually, it qualifies for sure.
darkhyrulelord: Awesome vid Game Sack!
Albino Rhino: Contra Force was awful! I remember seeing an ad for it in Gamepro (we used to read magazines back in the day kids) and I was SO hyped for it just because it was Contra but I never got it. It became this "holy grail" for me of needing to play it.
10 years later I FINALLY played it and it was....that.....
Also I owned South Park. I had bad taste apparently.

Albino Rhino: I was thinking the same thing. I remember the game being well received back in the day.
Albino Rhino: Lol that actually made me laugh out loud at the thought of it!

A look at a few different JRPG series. More to come in the future as well!
darkhyrulelord: That's a lot of JRPGs I certainly need to try out sometime...
roger3eme: Indeed the storylines and gameplay are amazing!
Evil Ivan: Joe's overview of the Phantasy Star series is brought to you by the Mega Powers.
caboose_-1: I actually asked Jared what's a great RPG to get into and he immediately said Suikoden. It must be good to get his seal of approval.
JxL: No Traysia?!!?!?! Really?!?!?!

Lets see how some arcade games compare to the console versions of the same name.
NODlike: Off-Road or P.O.W. might be good games to look at. Great video!
PhantomExdeath: Shinobi on Master System was one of the first video games I ever played. The gameplay is pretty fun, and the only time the music changes is for the Boss fights, but aside from that it's overall really fun. lol Funny I never knew all the requirements needed to do the ninjutsu xD
JxL: One other thing to mention about Ninja Gaiden arcade are those weird ass controllers it had.
ThePortlandian: Another Great Video. You guys continuously put out awesome stuff.
beyondthestars: Having not ever really sat down with Ninja Gaiden before (rented it once), I'd probably pick the PC Engine one. It looks a lot cleaner.

Some games didn't get the success they deserved.
darkhyrulelord: Great vid. I need to play 3D Dot Game Heroes myself if I have the chance.
caboose_-1: They actually have a lot of overlooked, underrated, and just plain ignored games in their videos actually. There are a fair number of shmups and racing games but that's just due to their preferences. It's a great series.
JxL: "3D Dot Game Heroes is better then most Zelda games" Wow it takes some balls to say that ...i agree 100%
KRS 2: I know! I saw his review shortly after posting this comment and I was so happy !
Also my comment was meant to read "In australia no one has heard..."

Joriss: I've played a shitload of Pocket Fighter back in the day, great game! Another overlooked gem is Alundra for PSone, very classic 2D-rpg with insane dungeons.

Time to take a look at more games that were never released abroad in their time. Oh and let's spend a bit of time with the Sharp Twin famicom as well and some of the Nintendo disk games!
darkhyrulelord: Great video! Lots of interesting games being shown. Wouldn't mind checking them out.
They Call Me Th...: Another fine video, guys... Love it when you do a piece on hardware...
I'm such a sucker for photography games...
I'm such a sucker for photography games...
seikenman: I picked up a Sharp Twin Famicom AN-505 a few years ago. The thing is great. Serves all my NES(via adapter), FC and FDS needs! The 505 model has turbo controllers too :)
Also, I'm not sure if you just edited it for comedic effect, but it shouldn't take quite that long to load the levels. Usually you just go through one round of that clicking sound during loading. Your disk drive might need a slight adjustment.

Luigius: wai wai world is a lot of fun
Metallion: I haven't seen the video yet but to Zeroandx: Zelda didn't exist yet when the disk system came out. The cartridge version was made later. Same goes for Metroid and Simon's Quest.

If you have friends, you can actually play videogames with them!
Blog0188: For the record, when I was in Japan, I mistook a pair of brothers from southern England for Aussies by the way they spoke, so cut me a bit of slack Potential positive ramifications of video game playing have also been proposed. Recent research has suggested that some violent video games may even promote prosocial behavior in certain contexts - Bank Mandiri
Abigail001: Wonderful. Indeed, to appreciate more and have fun with the game, play it with friends or family. - Brenda Lee Reed
darkhyrulelord: Awesome episode and some good picks. I do wish though that multiplayer that is local would be more prevalent these days though....online only goes so much. Then again, people I know these days don't want to play games with me anyway IRL.
Game Sack: No kidding, right? Nowadays to even play cooperatively you usually need two consoles and a network.
PhantomExdeath: Great episode! for other multiplayer games, besides obvious fighting games and FPS, I'd suggest Spy vs Spy on NES, and bomberman!!!

The Sega Saturn rocks!
Pickster: I think it is worth mentioning that the Saturn is a very easy console to mod to play games from other regions.
This is a mod that doesn't require a mod chip, so is not for pirating or playing 'back ups'. However it does let you play those games that didn't make it out of Japan
....and even better for those of us from the UK, with a little more fiddling, we can get full 60hz playback. Some Pal games work perfectly fine switching from 50hz to 60hz others are best played with the US or Japanese version.
I'm glad Guardian Heroes made the episode. Excellent game. I have a Pal version, Japanese version and the XBLA version.

darkhyrulelord: The Sega Saturn...another console that has eluded me. Also, great episode!
firehazard51: That ending was hilarious.
caboose_-1: This was a great episodes guys, the added music and sound effects in the montage must have taken a lot of effort but it really paid off. The Craig Stadler bits were really funny too. Keep it up guys!
