Recent financial reports revealed a lower than expected fiscal report is to be revealed soon
Linklex7: What the hell are you talking about? Pessimistic people are not the ones giving gamers a bad perception to the outside world. It's the "bro gamer" douchebag that doesn't want any outsider playing their game unless it's Madden or Call of Duty. They are hurting the industry. Also, before anyone complains, I didn't say all fans of Madden or Call of Duty. Just the frat boy ones that act like gaming is an exclusive culture for them alone. Maybe if you were as sensible as you "claim" to be, you would notice that instead of trying to pass judgment over everyone else. Get the fuck off this page until you get some more knowledge on the industry dickwad.
Linklex7: Does Capcom seriously not get that all the constant expensive on-disk dlc is why most people have stopped buying their games, or do they just live in Bizarro World where up is down and good is bad?
Linklex7: I gotta agree with Sckarton. Gamers like you are what's hurting the industry, HFALpha7. You let companies get away with whatever they want. Yeah, whining like a baby may not always be the best solution, but at least they are doing something to help the industry. No matter how little it is, they are trying. What the hell have you done for the industry? Nothing.
Sckarton: it's because people like you who let companies get away with too many things that is wrong with this industry and we have to either deal with it or do something about it.
Think again, loser.
Think again, loser.
HFAlpha7: Pessimistic people like you are the reason people think so negatively of gamers and why the gaming industry is bleeding.
Think again, hater.

Unlike Square Enix's idea for failures, these two "failures" haven't sold well so far
TigerNightmare: You guys know I meant 100,000 copies in the first month, right? They really need to get out of the film business model of high risk high reward. These huge budgets are ridiculous and wasteful. You'd think people would have learned their lesson after what happened with Ion Storm.
darkhyrulelord: Yeah, it's going to be difficult to top 3 with God of War. : /
deChakra: I don't know where you get your information. But even in the relatively small Japanese market, having only 100,000 totals sales is disastrous just going by current gen development cost. 100,000 copies means 4 million in revenue.
Take in all the stuff the publishers takes out, marketing, developer advance bonus, license, retail and the development budget would be optimistically a million dollars in actually developing the game. So no, 100,000 copies would not cut it.

Kenshiro3: He already killed the roman Gods.Roman Mythology = Renamed Greek Mythology so i doubt that.
Gaijin Goombah: PC and 3DS really do seem to be the gaming platforms that aren't suffering from either horrible stagnation or lack of games. I have the feeling the next gen home consoles are going to start with a squeaky fart.

Rumor based on leaked promotional stuff.
halfHOLYpaladin: AHHHHH yeah! Get ready to troll snipers by parachuting jeeps on them.
OVERSKY: I don't know, this doesn't look very official to me..
KataWolf: Frostbite 3. That was fast.

The decision is due to several reasons with declining sales as a big factor.
Linklex7: Its not lack of interest that's responsible for the low sales. It's the ridiculous pricing that Capcom has done. Stop making these re-releases $15-20. $10 is a nice good number for what is basically an old game that most people either already own or already play on MAME.
Albino Rhino: I can not believe I forgot about Power Stone! Damn it, that game with online play would be spectacular.
As for Rival Schools/Project Justice, ai actually never played. Would it hold up today? Some of the 3D fighting games don't translate so well today. I remember Street Fighter EX did reasonably well, now, not so much.

DaiSanSei: Perhaps the 2nd Fighting game boom is dying.
Fox: Power Stone?
Personally I'd like to see Rival Schools/Project Justice done proper but I might be alone.

Restrucring and closures made up the bulk of the losses.
Zanon: Well as I said I would like to see them make another just like part 1 and 2 even if they have to get them involved.
Zanon: I understand and have tried out all of those, the latest one on NDS sucked bad voice acting and they ruined it, as a fan I would of much prefered the snes style just with updated graphics almost new story line and such, I mean the one on gba was good but like I said if it was done correctly on a big console such as wii, ps3 or even xbox I would buy it up fast.
Zanon: I know but if they went old style snes just with like disgaea 4 graphics with a very good story line I would buy it up in a hot minute just depends who else would go for it.
caboose_-1: Lufia is pretty niche; Legend Returns was great but I don't know I could really sell enough to justify making one. :(
caboose_-1: Square Enix has some fantastic IPs, they just need to be smarter with them. Stop making FF13 games, focus on better marketing instead of what Metacritic will rate as good, and maybe give Eidos a bit more recognition.

Square Enix revealed what they were actually expecting in sales for their big games.
CloudyIce: I would assume most of the layoffs and what not would be for people in the marketing department. These games were all great games, I have played them all, but maybe besides tomb raider, most of these games weren't really "out there" so to speak.
Ferret75: I haven't been in a game company, but how exactly are these bad sales figures?
MagnumMagnus: It'd be nice if more companies would follow Nintendo's example and have their head honcho take a pay cut when something fails, rather than punish all the people who worked their asses off to make it happen in the first place.
darkhyrulelord: Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
darkhyrulelord: Yeah, I do think that starting prices are generally more expensive than they should be if a good amount of the games go down to $25 over a few months. There are some exceptions, however (like Skyrim).

She believes this could both be the key to lower rising costs and provide players more control over their games.
GhosX9: Let me clarify I don't think user generated content is bad some games have really made it work, but some studios use it as an excuse to cut corners on the final project. It should be kind of like level design for multiplayer games, an awesome feature to have but not necessary to the experience.
NickP: Ah, good ol' User-Generated Content!
It can be a great thing, don't get me wrong. Hell, LittleBig Planet proves that it can not only work, but work very well. But if it gets abused, it can also be terribly lazy.
And that is exactly why I'm apprehensive about this. With companies like EA, Capcom, and Square, it won't take them very long to abuse UGC. They'll abuse it more than they abuse the dead horses they beat when they make more titles from their core franchises.
Seriously, why wouldn't they? Why would they waste extra time and money actually putting something together, when they can throw a bunch of stuff at us, and let us do their job for them?
I feel that, instead of just giving us the various pieces-parts of a game and saying "Here, make something out of this", they should actually try to make something new (inb4 "nothing is new" argument). Some one-off IPs, or an entirely new franchise.

NemesisTrestkon: Think of it as the Have It Your Way slogan in Burger King, really. The thing about games having user-generated content is that it supports their ideas of how they want the game to be, whether it be something improved or completely different. An example of such a game would be Doom.
GhosX9: I think of it like this, I go to buy a sandwich and the woman behind the counter says "Ok this is a great sandwich but I am only gonna give you most of the sandwich and here are the ingredients to make the rest of the sandwich but I am still going to charge you the full price." To which I reply "No, Fuck that I am paying for the whole goddamn sandwich you give me what I am paying for."
go77go: If you ask me this them giving me bun, meat, and veg and telling me to make a burger when I bought a burger from them. the TF2 hats thing is completely different TF2 on its own is a great game, but this is stupid.

None of the games met their sales expectations, nor helped lessen Square's poor fiscal year.
darkhyrulelord: Tomb Raider was a financial failure?? That's actually a bit of a surprise.
TigerNightmare: Also, I was browsing at Best Buy earlier and they only had one copy of the game left and it was the $100 special edition. How can they sell more copies without more stock?
armodillo17: You're right, I did misunderstand what you were saying (or why you said it).
MagnumMagnus: I like to think S-E is failing because they're turning into a buncha nob-goblins.
I point to their Final Fantasy iOS game as evidence.

ADO300: how could this even happen? for years SE did crap FF games, and when they finally make something great, it's a failure? interesting and a damn shame too.

Though, your statement makes for a good possibility.
