Bioshock isn't as slavishly devoted to the kind of cinematic realism that a lot games are now, and because its not afraid to test your willing suspension of disbelief, all the other themes of the game feel so much more profound. It's just a game that holds nothing back in its attempt to a challenge our present understanding of society, and because of that it excels.
I am actually going to be writing a post on the perception of videogames in popular culture as a final part of my piece on the games industry lately, but your comparisons have been really interesting. Thanks for sharing, I look forward to reading your next part.
No, just kidding. But... I am planning to give my profile a massive makeover. Plus there's going to be a pretty big announcement coming up soon, so keep your eyes out. And maybe, just maybe, I will finally finish my Top Ten Finest Fighter Girls...

This also brought back memories of a conversation I had with someone here on ScrewAttack. This one person tried to say that the Wii was obviously the worst console of this (or I guess now it's last) generation because the metacritic scores were higher for the big games on the PS3/360.
When I first got wind of the Mass Effect 3 Endings fallout, I first thought it was just another Meta-bombing incident similar to MW3. Sure, there were much more distinctive reasons why it got so negatively received, but the whole game wasn't really seriously reviewed.
And then there are things like MW3 which have no real, determinable, reason for having such bad scores other than the fact that everybody hates FPSs, and you really wonder what the hell people do with their judgment.
Portal 2 getting a bad score is shocking enough, but then turning around and seeing games as heavily bashed in casual comment section talk as Halo 4 and PSASBAR get user scores relatively close to the mainstream review scores is a real head-scratcher.
I tend to trust professional reviewers like Pro Jared (We miss you buddy!) and Angry Joe because I have tested their authenticity by buying the games they recommend, and finding their judgement to be one that is similar to mine. For that reason I trust them.
And all the reviewers I favor don't have the bullshit 7 out of 10 is average rule, which is giving a game WAY too much props. I prefer the 5 out of 10 average score rule that sites like SA have come to adopt.
Aside from all my other personal preferences, all I know is that the internet can be a real bitch sometime...
Even with games like Mass Effect 3, where I think a lot of the more well-thought out criticism made by fans and non-official reviewers holds water, the people who meta-bombed the game weren't presenting any of those criticisms in a well-thought out manner, considering how quickly the game was Meta-bombed I doubt 1/8 of the people involved in the Meta-bombing even took the time to play the game, let alone play it extensively.
The funny thing is I think most modern day, professional critics are way too lenient and eager to hand out high scores, but I'd rather they be somewhat lenient, yet still willing to be critical when needed than ready to pounce on whatever game is getting good review scores the first chance they get.
