Looks like a lot of people a speaking their minds about this Xbox One business. That has got to be the dumbest name for a console Iv'e ever heard. The Xbox is already "Xbox One." It makes no damn sense. And is it really true that they are going to make pay full price for a used game with their internal software? Are people going to start charging me full price for used books and movies? I wouldn't have been able to have the car I have now if that'd be the case.
5/22/13 10:56am
Samuraispartan7000: My god and I thought Windows 8 was Microsoft's biggest failure... Did they not get the message that no one gives a flying f**k about the Kinect? It must sell incredibly well to the casual gamer because there doesn't seem to be any other reason to bring it back. And that shit with forcing people to pay full price for a used game is just unconstitutional. And with the number of incredibly stupid court cases Iv'e seen in the industry as of late, I wouldn't be surprised if used market retailers like GameStop would sue Microsoft on the basis of anti-trust legislation. Think about it, they are trying to destroy a whole business by utilizing software that not only violates personal privacy but also charges money for a product they technically don't own. The person who paid for it used OWNS THE GAME, and charging someone to access property they already purchased is just morally wrong.

Icipall: Yes, yes thay are. Every game comes with a one-time-use code you must use to be able to play the game. If you want to play it on someone elses console, you must pay the games prize again.

What the hell?! How come every time I try to look at the second list of community blogs it shows me all the DEATH BATTLE videos?

"Oh no... He said art! Runaway! Flame-wars inevitable!"
5/21/13 6:16pm
Samuraispartan7000: Thank you for the input. Again I can see where people are coming from, but I don't always necessarily agree. Spec Ops could have gone from being a good game with deep themes to one of the greatest games of all time with incredibly deep themes if it just made the gameplay more interesting.

Bioshock isn't as slavishly devoted to the kind of cinematic realism that a lot games are now, and because its not afraid to test your willing suspension of disbelief, all the other themes of the game feel so much more profound. It's just a game that holds nothing back in its attempt to a challenge our present understanding of society, and because of that it excels.

Molmoran: It's interesting what you said about art and it's commentary on the human condition, as I find that I, despite preaching it being "art" with Bioshock, I feel it leans more towards entertaining one who has an appreciation of art by being a love letter for Objectivism, in fact most of my appreciation and fun is had by loving and enjoying the artistic nature of games, hence my inward classification as entertainment, Spec Ops is the same in this regard.

I am actually going to be writing a post on the perception of videogames in popular culture as a final part of my piece on the games industry lately, but your comparisons have been really interesting. Thanks for sharing, I look forward to reading your next part.

Wow! I can actually see what I intended to on my walls now! Bad loading time? Now idea, but at least my banner image worked.

4/8/13 4:54pm
Wow, I guess I never remembered how difficult it was to upload new images for the backgrounds! I give up... For now.

caboose_-1: Diligence my friend!

4/8/13 4:32pm
Ugh... New background and pics not working the way I wanted them to. I just realized I couldn't change my username either. Ah well, I'll keep toying with it.

4/8/13 3:08pm
Things are about to change...
4/8/13 3:40pm
Samuraispartan7000: MWAHAHA!!!! By twelve o'clock tonight, the world shall belong to me!!! HA HA HA!

No, just kidding. But... I am planning to give my profile a massive makeover. Plus there's going to be a pretty big announcement coming up soon, so keep your eyes out. And maybe, just maybe, I will finally finish my Top Ten Finest Fighter Girls...
4/8/13 3:25pm
Icipall: How?

2/25/13 8:46pm

Read on to find out what Michael Bay, McDonald's, rebellious neighborhood kids, and robot balls have in common and why we should just forget this pathetic human being.
2/26/13 9:59pm
Dark Magician: Yeah I agree people gotta chill out when it comes to Michael Bay, but the internet loves to hate him, especially "film critics". And I think that's what he feeds on. Its pretty much, "Bad press is good press." As long as he's being talked about, he's laughing all the way to the bank.
2/25/13 10:55pm
Samuraispartan7000: There's a difference between catering to the teen demographic and making incredibly offensive material to the face of humanity. Robot pissing on man, okay dumb but funny. Robot humping a chick's leg and saying "At least he's loyal" is degrading to every human on the face of the planet. But I shouldn't be this upset. It's just dumb we keep bringing him up.
2/25/13 10:41pm
Alpha Unit: I remember reading somewhere that Bay wondered why people are criticizing him for making films for teenage males. He literally asked that. Do most of us fit into his demographic in the first place?
2/25/13 10:36pm
Noble Team 1: wow this was a pretty interesting read, though I do agree with you on the fact that a lot of other films are seen by other to a Micheal Bay in style by some of my friends, though I do see your point of how comparing his work to other films gets him more attention than he needs. Plus I really like the spoiled brat analogy too.

I know this makes me sound like a total idiot, but... How do embed videos in this newer version of the blog editor?
1/27/13 7:31pm
1/27/13 5:41pm
LousyTactician: You know the 'source' button that appears in the top left corner of the edit options? click on that, and past the embedded link where you wish for it to go. If you see a big square when you return to the regular text it should have worked.

1/21/13 4:44pm

Man, and I thought the whole controversy surrounding gun-violence and video-games was bad...
2/2/13 12:40am
darkhyrulelord: Yeah, these are a lot of great reasons as to why I don't take many of the user reviews very seriously. Still though, if someone has a lot to say on it then most likely they have at least played a good portion of the game. ....unless they are trolling of course.
1/22/13 8:54pm
Samuraispartan7000: Problem is trust is something that must be tested. And in this case, you actually have to buy the game to perform this task. That's why I only look to a handful of reviewers because there aren't that many I would be willing to stake my cash on in first place. And the thing with leniency is that so many of the people that are assigned to a particular game are placed there because they are familiar and possibly fans of the previous games. While this might make the review more useful to other fans, you can't help but wonder how much bias can set in. In addition, most mainstream reviewers classify 7s as average, which can be incredibly misleading. SA, Angry Joe, Pro Jared, and most others that people in this community would be more familiar with make 5's an average score. Which makes A LOT MORE SENSE.
1/22/13 8:42pm
caboose_-1: You're right on both fronts but I think they need to be more stringent with the high scores they give out. I'm sorry but every Call of Duty game doesn't deserve the same kind of praise that you would give to classics like Goldeneye or the original Halo or DOOM (sticking to the FPS genre of course). We've heard of reviewers getting bribed too in order to give out a better score, it's just hard to know who to trust these days.

This also brought back memories of a conversation I had with someone here on ScrewAttack. This one person tried to say that the Wii was obviously the worst console of this (or I guess now it's last) generation because the metacritic scores were higher for the big games on the PS3/360.
1/21/13 7:08pm
Samuraispartan7000: There's no real problem with Metacritic's main purpose. It's just those damn user reviews...

When I first got wind of the Mass Effect 3 Endings fallout, I first thought it was just another Meta-bombing incident similar to MW3. Sure, there were much more distinctive reasons why it got so negatively received, but the whole game wasn't really seriously reviewed.

And then there are things like MW3 which have no real, determinable, reason for having such bad scores other than the fact that everybody hates FPSs, and you really wonder what the hell people do with their judgment.

Portal 2 getting a bad score is shocking enough, but then turning around and seeing games as heavily bashed in casual comment section talk as Halo 4 and PSASBAR get user scores relatively close to the mainstream review scores is a real head-scratcher.

I tend to trust professional reviewers like Pro Jared (We miss you buddy!) and Angry Joe because I have tested their authenticity by buying the games they recommend, and finding their judgement to be one that is similar to mine. For that reason I trust them.

And all the reviewers I favor don't have the bullshit 7 out of 10 is average rule, which is giving a game WAY too much props. I prefer the 5 out of 10 average score rule that sites like SA have come to adopt.

Aside from all my other personal preferences, all I know is that the internet can be a real bitch sometime...
1/21/13 5:27pm
LousyTactician: I think Metacritic as a site that takes all the scores of other review sites across the web, and averages them out into one number is fine, it just REALLY needs to get rid of its user-review section, because Samurai is right. The number of infamous 'Meta-bombers' for games like Portal 2, Modern Warfare 3, and the like is absurd.

Even with games like Mass Effect 3, where I think a lot of the more well-thought out criticism made by fans and non-official reviewers holds water, the people who meta-bombed the game weren't presenting any of those criticisms in a well-thought out manner, considering how quickly the game was Meta-bombed I doubt 1/8 of the people involved in the Meta-bombing even took the time to play the game, let alone play it extensively.

The funny thing is I think most modern day, professional critics are way too lenient and eager to hand out high scores, but I'd rather they be somewhat lenient, yet still willing to be critical when needed than ready to pounce on whatever game is getting good review scores the first chance they get.
