With all of the hype going into the development of the new Star Wars trilogy, now seems like a fitting time for more video game related projects based on the epic franchise to make their way to the masses. Last week, we learned Obsidian has an idea for a new RPG based between Episode’s III and IV, well this week, another studio’s plan to reintroduce Star Wars to the fighting game scene had been uncovered.
Former Studio Gigante developer and current president of Robomodo, Josh Tsui recently revealed on his
Twitter feed that Gigante had completed a prototype for a Star Wars fighting game during his tenure at the studio, which appears to be set during the Clone Wars.
While the game failed to get off the ground, the studio managed to complete a full prototype, which can be seen above. To be honest, it isn’t the most exciting thing considering most of it is just standard swordplay (or lightsaberplay if you will) with some punches, kicks, and force throws added to the mix. Although having to stab your opponent in order to get the KO was a surprisingly dark design choice.
However, you have to remember this is merely a prototype meant to show off what the game’s engine is capable of and it does its job pretty well and considering Tsui’s
fighting game background, this game may have been something cool had it been given time to flourish.
Who knows? Maybe we’ll see a fighter based on this new trilogy within the next few years. Only time will tell.

Bit too focused on the Rock Paper Scissors system within the saberlock. Its slows the whole fighting down and doesnt really give a sense of intense combat. It feels as if it tried to be too cinematic for a fighting game, a bit like the dragon rush from DBZ Budokai 3 on PS3. Good motions and presentation, the finishing move idea was an interesting touch. But Tera Kasi had more punch at its core and even Jedi Academy's MP duels had way more crunch. Maybe a mix of it all would bring us a well balanced Star Wars Fighting game.

Cool idea, but I hate Star Wars games that treat lightsaber wounds like minor annoyances. I think if it were to be done right, you'd have a "defense" bar instead of a health bar. When you take lightsaber hits, an animation would play of your character blocking it, but sorta stumbling back. Getting kicked will also deplete this defense bar. Then, once the defense bar is down, the next time they're hit they lose a limb along with the fight.

I like how in this and Teras Kasi, lightsabers are little more than glow sticks...Getting hit with one just seems to be a minor annoyance and doesnt result in any lost limbs like in the movies.

What is this Masters of Teräs Käsi? Never even heard of it.

Teras Kasi looks better than this.....

Remember just a prototype

Teras Kasi wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be. I remember playing it a long time ago and loving the crap out of it. I was shocked a few years later when I found out everyone else in the world hated it. Is it really just me who feels that way?
This game is probably a long way off from release, if it even gets there at all. it will be interesting to see where this goes.

You're not alone. I loved it too, but having played it recently it hasn't aged well. Plus, a part of it for me was "OMG! STAR WARS FIGHTING GAME!"

The Force Unleashed had a fighting game in the Wii verison of both games. I never unlocked that part when I rented it for my Wii though.

Uhm... this looks better than Masters of Teräs Käsi? >.> I admit I haven't played it in a while, but I remember it being way better than what this looks like. And I dunno, me and all my friends loved playing a few rounds of Teräs Käsi on the weekends.
