Just days after a new Crash Bandicoot character design was spotted at Vicarious Visions’ HQ, an “anonymous source close to Activision” sent the fine folks over at Nintendo World Report a prototype for a never completed DS Crash game.
This prototype is dubbed Crash Landed
and was created by Mutant Mudds
developer Renegade Kid in 2008 (or possibly 2009) and according to RK co-founder Jool Watsham (who confirmed the video’s legitimacy
) it was submitted to Activision after being worked on for only two weeks
. Activision ultimately decided not to greenlight the project.
From the looks of this tech demo, it seems Crash Landed could have been a return to Crash’s PSOne era roots and perhaps if it was given the proper development time, it could have been a worthy successor to the original trilogy.
Oh well. Some things just aren’t meant to be I suppose. But perhaps Vicarious Visions can return this radical marsupial to a position of prominence?
