[Update] 43 WWE performers both past and present were confirmed for WWE 2K14’s “30 Years of Wrestlemania” single player campaign, in front of a live, capacity crowd at Summerslam Fan Axxess earlier today.
Of course there were plenty of predicable reveals such as Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, and Ricky Steamboat, but there were also a few big surprises such as the reveals of Razor Ramon (I marked out incredibly hard when I saw him) and Goldberg.
Here’s the full list of characters featured in "30 Years of Wrestlemania":
The Ultimate Warrior (pre-order)
Big Show (retro)
“Big Daddy Cool” Diesel
King Kong Bundy
Chris Jericho (retro)
Andre The Giant
Alberto Del Rio
“The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase
John Cena (Retro)
Triple H (retro)
Big John Studd
Ric Flair (retro)
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin
Shawn Micheals (retro)
Brock Lesnar (retro)
Bret “The Hitman” Hart
The Rock (retro)
“Macho Man” Randy Savage
Howard Finkel (ring announcer)
Jim Ross (commentary)
Jerry Lawler (commentary)
I must say I was quite surprised that Eddie Guerrero, Booker T, and Roddy Piper didn’t make the cut. Kurt Angle’s absence is of course disappointing but licensing, what’cha gunna do?
Over all, it’s a stacked roster with plenty of the best Superstars to ever grace the WWE and the reveal stream was quite an entertaining show in its own right, mostly due to Sandow’s excellent as always mic work. His calling out of the Legends who made the roster twice and his verbal confrontation with the surprise guest were the highlights of the entire one-hour broadcast.
If you’ve missed the roster reveal, you can check it out here. If you want to check out the live 30 Years of Wrestlemania Symposium (which includes appearances by Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Ric Flair, Steve Austin, Rey Mysterio, Mick Foley, and Paul Heyman), it’s available above.
The other half of WWE 2K14’s roster (the reamining modern day Superstars) will be revealed at a later date.
[Original Story] On the eve of WWE Summerslam (the promotion’s second biggest yearly PPV), the folks at 2K Games are currently broadcasting a special live-stream hosted by the legendary commentary duo of Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler, and Smackdown’s Mr. Money in the Bank
, Damien Sandow. During the stream, this expert panel will reveal the WWE Legends and current day Superstars who will be playable in WWE 2K14’s
single player campaign, “30 Years of Wrestlemania.”
Much like the Attitude Era Mode featured in last year’s installment, players will have the opportunity to put their own spin on some of WWE’s most classic moments. Although rather reliving the company’s second big boom (in all of its TV-14 glory), players will compete in the most important matches (reported to be 45+ in total
) in the three-decade-long history of the “Showcase of the Immortals.”
Only three matches have been confirmed thus far:
Hulk Hogan Vs Andre The Giant for the WWE Championship (Wrestlemania 3)
Hulk Hogan Vs The Rock (Wrestlemania X8)
The Rock Vs John Cena “Once in a Life Time” (LOL!) (Wrestlemania 28)
We also know that “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, “The Macho Man” Randy Savage, JBL, The Undertaker, and The Ultimate Warrior (this year’s pre-order bonus) have been confirmed as playable Legends, so expect to see some of their best matches pop up in this mode as well.
Other big names such as Bret “The Hitman” Hart, Ric Flair, "Hot Rod" Rowdy Roddy Piper, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase, Mick Foley, Edge, Eddie Guerrero, Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, The Big Show, Randy Orton, Booker T, CM Punk, and Chris Jericho are also expected.
This post will be updated with the full roster and list of matches later on this evening, as 2K broadcasts the “30 Years of Wrestlemania Symposium”, in which Legends and current WWE talent discuss their favorite Wrestlemania moments.
WWE 2K14 will launch for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 29 in North America and everywhere else on November 1.
