The Ultimate Sequel - Persona 4 Arena's follow-up officially announced
A little while back, information was stated from fellow Atlus employees that Persona 4 Arena was going to receive further content in the future. Their plans are now on display with the latest trailer for the Arc System Work's collaboration fighting game, now titled Persona 4 Arena: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold. Looks like someone gave the wrestling fan in the conference a crack at the title.
Persona 4 Arena: TUUSH take place a few days after the events of the first iteration and with a new day comes a new tournament, the 'P-1 Climax', thus explaining the inclusion of new characters that will be making their fighting game debut. Persona 3 will be getting more representation with the inclusion of Yukari Takeba (an archery UMvC3 Hawkeye-based style character so far), and Junpei Iori with his baseball bat of JUSTICE!
Alongside those two, a completely new character also appears named Sho Minazuki. Whether he unsheathes his two blades for Yu and friends or for the shadow versions that will also be featured in the game, or even just participating in the new tournament just for the hell of it is a mystery. Whatever the case, I doubt he will be the main antagonist of this because the end of the trailer shows that Yudow, the shadow version of Persona 4 proswagonist, Yu, will be playing a bigger role in the new story.
Now with all that news and hype out of the way, time for some unfortunate news: the new game will be releasing somewhere in Winter, but it will only be hitting Japanese arcades, with still no plans on an international release.
Comment Question: Do you think that Persona 4 Ultimax will be heading to US/EU shores sometime soon? What wrestling move-based subtitle can you think of to put in a game?
I'm going to assume eventual console port will add Ken and hopefully Koromaru (the dog).
I really hope this comes out in the US as DLC or something unlike one of the BlazBlu arcade ports
Still waiting on that Guilty Gear/Blazblue crossover.
No, It's definitely a sequel. Pretty much every major news outlet has announced it to be a sequel and the amount of new content being added to the game is far to large for a simple DLC update. I mean so far they have 3 new characters being added(one which is an original character), 5 new stages(revealed so far), new story content confirmed to take place after the original(which seems like it may be pretty lengthy based on some story details that have been revealed on some other news sights), they're adding in a new gameplay mechanic called shadow mode(where you can choose shadow versions of each character, each which have special abilities not seen in the normal characters), they're changing up basic game mechanics(the bursts may work differently I think), and are re-balancing/giving new moves to almost the entire cast.
The also gave this version of the game a brand new name and went out of their way to create all new artwork as well. When putting this all together a sequel is pretty much the only conclusion you could come to(especially when comparing how arcsystem handles the blazblue series in comparison, which despite having updates never changes huge game mechanics or continues past old storylines without being a sequel).
For reference, the "P-1 Climax Tournament" comes from New Japan Pro Wrestling's annual super tournament called "G1 Climax" that has been running for 22 years and is always one of the big events every year of the Japanese wrestling scene. The finals alone pack the entirety of the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo (aka the Sumo Hall, as the big sumo wrestling tournaments in Tokyo are held there) with over 10000 people since the tournament's inception, even in the company's worst years (from 2002-2006).
i wonder when this DLC is coming to the US for Persona 4 arena... i hope its available for only $10-$15 dollars as a add on to P4 arena which makes since for just 3 new characters.. also why are people calling it a sequel?.. its DLC, not a sequel even if they try to pull a capcom and sell it as a whole new game like Capcom did for the 4 different versions of the same street fighter 4 game with a few new characters each separate version.
SO HYPED FOR THIS! Hopefully its released in the us and i have no clue about the name btw anybody reading this in japan they will be a location test tomorrow through sunday
knowing atlus this will proboably releas in EU around 2016
