The new 007 Legends intro seems ripped straight from the movies
Posted in honor of James Bond day, here is the intro for Activision's 007 Legends coming out next Tuesday!
So what you're saying is that you're annoyed because this is ultimately an fps game with the bond licence slapped on top and not a Bond game that happens to use FPS mechanics because they are the best fit for purpose?
I can see your point but as long as it's fun, that should be the most important aspect, surely. I don't expect to feel like Bond playing these games, fps or otherwise, because I think the kind of things they'd need to do to get that feeling across might allienate a lot of the gamers out there, perhaps moreso than EoN & FRWL etc. Is the average Bond fan a big enough gamer to get onboard with something so complex? I'm not so sure.
So I'm okay with that dumbing down - I expect that and accept that going in. If they want to try something different, then go ahead by all means if they think they can pull it off and I'll eagerly await the results but soing so could really narrow their target market.
Agreed... from what I've seen and heard about the game its just as you described it, "fan wank fest" completely bereft of the series substance. That's why, as a huge bond fans I've held little if ANY interest in the game.
PS My fave 007 games were Everything or Nothing & From Russia with Love. Those two games NAILED the movies' the essence.
As far as I know Skyfall is something like the final act of the game and it will be released as DLC in conjunction with the movie
I think you might have misinterpreted my point (probably my fault). My problem with this game isn't that the game is not an adaptation of the Skyfall movie, my problem with this game is that it doesn't really understand the 007 series at all. The game is an FPS clearly because those are the 007 games that sell the best (see Bloodstone, From Russia with Love, and Everything or Nothing and compare against the FPS ones) and the movies chosen, or specifically the set pieces chosen, are all bombastic battlefields and war zones. The new Skyfall film is all about distilling 50 years of Bond to its most essential and giving it the twist the Daniel Craig's interpretation has brought to the character. 007 Legends is just re purposing COD to fit into the James Bond franchise.
It's quite possible Skyfall wouldn't translate too well to a full campaign to carry the entire game - the Quantom of Solace game was based on both Daniel Craig films and the GoldenEye games take incredible liberties with the plots to the point they might as well have called it something else entirely.
I do agree that as an opening to the game about a selection of the films, it misses it's mark with the same finesse as a typical bond villian henchman, It was pretty much just Goldfinger with a blast of Moonraker (also Shirley Bassey) for all of 2 seconds before switching straight back. Still, it meant we were spared Die Another Day by Madonna.
Skyfall is in the game, or heard of as free DLC. but none the less its there. and ill wait to have the price go down as its useing the updated engine from the Golden eye game.. so ill wait simply for that reason
I am very disappointed with this game overall. Instead of following the lead of the new Bond film, Skyfall, and distilling the essence of Bond and what has made this series such a memorable one for the last 50 years, we get fan wank fest of the biggest excesses of the franchise. The intro video seems more appropriate for a videogame based on the Connery films only, seeing as almost all the references come from that era
